The Opportunity
Prospect Schools is seeking an Assistant Principal of Instruction that is an organized, flexible, and mission-driven leader to join us in support of our next phase of growth and expansion at Brooklyn Prospect High School. Prospect teachers are grounded in an equity-driven approach following the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, where instruction emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, global mindedness, and inclusive classroom practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Driving Student Outcomes
Drives the academic program strategy for the grades 9-12; making data-informed decisions about instructional priorities, pacing, and intervention in partnership with the Principal
Leads a structured data response cycle; analyzing gradebook trends, internal assessments, and external assessments on a defined cadence, and translating findings into targeted instructional adjustments at the teacher, department, and school level
Leads planning and implementation of instructional professional development
Ensures instructional systems are functioning with fidelity and quality; including weekly walkthroughs tied to coaching priorities, lesson plan review cycles, curriculum hub maintenance, and pacing calendar alignment
Directs the scope and work of the Curiosity Team (Directors and Associate Directors); setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and holding the team accountable to student outcome goals
Conducts regular gradebook audits to monitor grade distribution; identify students at risk of failure, and ensure grading practices are equitable and aligned to academic policy
Establishes and enforces academic policies that reflect Prospect's commitment to rigor and equity; including grading, promotion, and academic integrity standards
Establishes assessment vision for grades 9-12.
Manages all schoolwide assessment logistics for Quarter Blocks, Semester Exams, and Regents, including Exam scheduling and room assignments, Proctor scheduling and preparation and Assessment quality review and Illuminate data management
Supporting a Positive Student Experience
Co-owns the vision for student experience alongside the Principal and AP of Student Support and Experience, ensuring that schoolwide systems reflect high expectations and genuine care for every student
Serves as an executive team member for the 10th grade (Lower AP) or 11th grade (Upper AP) Grade Level Team, providing instructional leadership and strategic direction for that cohort's academic trajectory
Responds to escalated student culture incidents in coordination with the Principal and APSSE, bringing an instructional lens to restorative and disciplinary responses
Maintains active presence on grade level: engaging with students, monitoring academic progress, and intervening proactively when students are off-track
Manages DASA reports for the assigned grade level as designated by the APSSE, ensuring timely and compliant response

Develop the capacity of direct reports to lead their areas effectively and independently. Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and support to team members aligned to school priorities. Monitor performance to ensure consistency and quality of execution across team members and hold team members accountable for outcomes and execution
Build leadership pipelines by identifying and developing emerging leaders
Develop and lead vision for teacher development practice and systems
Directly manage a caseload of instructional leaders and a caseload of teachers
Take a lead role in recruitment and hiring talent and own staffing model for instructional staff
Family Engagement
Build relationships and provide ongoing progress updates through regular communication with the families of all students in your classroom
Utilize family and student feedback to continuously improve the learning experience for your students
Owns communication for families related to instructional program and updates for student progress
Owns execution of family programming related to academic program (ie curriculum night)
About You:
You have earned a Bachelor’s Degree
You have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
You have a minimum of 3 years of people management and team leadership experience in the education sector
You have experience leading curriculum development for a department
You have a proven track record of results for students and of driving results for students through others
Salary:
The salary range for this role starts at $124,000, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
