Position Description

Job Summary:

The Shuttle Buggy Operator is vital to the continuous operation of the paving crew. It is considered a skilled craft position that performs a combination of duties including machine operation and maintenance, accurate machine placement, and general knowledge of asphalt materials and paving processes. The Shuttle Buggy Operator’s primary duty involves transferring asphalt material from haulers to paver to allow for a continuous supply of material. The work environment is outdoors and primarily hot and dirty from substances commonly found in construction such as dirt, oil, and grease. This position can be physically demanding and often requires extended work hours. Some contracts require adjusted work hours to accommodate interstate traffic rules.

Job Duties:

  1. Controls and operates the shuttle buggy.
  2. Maintains communication with drivers and paver operators.
  3. Ensures a continuous supply of asphalt is transported to the paver without unnecessary joints.
  4. Precisely maneuvers shuttle buggy between dump truck and asphalt paver.
  5. Reports and acknowledges maintenance requests.
  6. Operates other paving equipment and performing general laborer duties as needed by supervisor.

Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

  1. Asphalt Paving Experience preferred.
  2. Strong focus on safety.
  3. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  4. Excellent attention to detail and task oriented.
  5. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
  6. Must have valid transportation.
  7. Requires flexible work schedule, including days, nights, overtime, and weekends.
