About This Position
Job Summary: The Cardiovascular sonographer primarily specializes in the utilization of ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic imaging studies. This position is for both outpatient and hospital inpatient facilities that require staff to perform job duties in critical care settings, patient care floors and within the non-invasive lab. This position may require travel to various lab satellite offices throughout the organization as needed. The schedule is variable including rotating weekends and holiday coverage. The sonographer will report directly to the Clinical Manager and Director of the department.
Responsibilities:
- The ability to perform IAC standard adult echocardiograms and IAC standard vascular ultrasound studies including but not limited to, adult echo, stress echo, cerebral vascular, neuor-vascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, PVR, abdominal aorta, renal arteries, vein mapping, fistula studies as well as bypass grafts.
- Performs exams in a timely manner.
- The ability to recognize pathology.
- Adheres to and practices appropriate Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining current licensure/certification/CME requirements as well as assume the responsibility for on-going professional development.
- The ability to interact and communicate with physicians, fellows, nurses, techs, management and fellow employees in a way that promotes teamwork and a productive working environment.
- The ability to perform duties in an independent manner.
- Data and billing entry into the EMR where applicable. Structuring preliminary reports in the digital imaging PACS system, where applicable.
- Ability to perform portable exams in various areas of the hospital, including the medical and surgical intensive care units, cardiac catheterization labs, hybrid operating rooms. (if applicable)
- The ability to execute job duties to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.
- The ability to ensure the accuracy and completeness of work performed.
- The ability to maintain a clean organized work area.
- The ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of cardiac pathology.
- Insertion of IVs and administration of Echocardiography enhancement agents and agitated saline.
- Adheres to radiation safety protocols.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
- 1-2 years of previous scanning experience, preferred
- Stress, Pediatric, ACHD and Fetal Echo experience, preferred
- New graduates of a Diagnostic Cardiovascular Ultrasound Program also considered
Education:
- High School or equivalent, required
- Graduate from a Diagnostic Cardiovascular Ultrasound Program, required.
Licenses / Certifications:
- Active credentials in the area of Adult Echocardiography and/or Vascular Technology with CCI or ARDMS, required. One or more of the following credentials will be accepted, RDCS(AE) or (PE), RCS, RVT, RVS, RCCS.
- IV Certification/competency, preferred

Special Requirements:
Must be able to wear protective gear in interventional areas such as lead aprons (if applicable)
