This role is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the strategy, architecture, and implementation of network automation across a fiber-optic broadband infrastructure. The Director of Network Automation leads a team of engineers to design scalable, AI-driven provisioning, orchestration, and workflow systems, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability. The role involves developing automation pipelines, integrating advanced APIs, and implementing “Network as Code” practices while fostering a culture of engineering excellence. You will leverage historical data and AI agents to optimize network performance, provisioning, and capacity planning. This position combines technical expertise, strategic oversight, and hands-on development in a fast-paced, innovative environment. It also includes mentoring engineers, defining standards, and continuously improving tools and processes to enhance service quality and operational agility.
- Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of network automation, orchestration, and provisioning systems
- Oversee AI-driven network operations, including autonomous remediation, intelligent provisioning, and closed-loop reliability modules
- Manage tools and infrastructure automation using Python, Ansible, Salt, Terraform, Linux, Kubernetes, and virtualized environments
- Direct the integration of APIs, internal portals, and legacy systems to modern service-oriented architectures
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of DevOps and network automation engineers, promoting software engineering discipline and innovation
- Establish coding standards, peer review practices, and CI/CD pipelines to maintain robust, scalable, and maintainable automation systems
- Develop metrics and dashboards to monitor system performance, efficiency, and the impact of automation initiatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in software development, DevOps, or network automation
- At least 3 years in an engineering management or director-level role
- Proven experience shipping production-grade software and maintaining long-term internal platforms
- Expertise in Linux systems, Python ecosystem, Kubernetes, Helm, Kafka, and automation frameworks
- Strong understanding of API design (REST/gRPC), provisioning workflows, and infrastructure automation
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills in a matrixed environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives, mentor teams, and work independently while meeting critical deadlines
