Seasonal STEM Engager (Part-Time) at Liberty Science Center – Jersey City, New Jersey

The Role

The Seasonal STEM Engager will support Liberty Science Center’s STEM Public Programs, which offer STEM programming and activities for learners of all ages. The Seasonal STEM Engager will 1) engage our guests in programming at LSC, such as demonstrations, pop-ups, and themed content, (2) provide hands-on engagement with soccer-themed programming; and (3) deliver a poisons-themed presentation in the Power of Poison gallery.

The Seasonal STEM Engager will report to the Manager, Public Programs, and collaborate with other members of the Public Programs team.

What You’ll Do

The essential functions of your day-to-day role will include some combination of the following:

• Assist and collaborate with STEM Engagers in engaging guests of all ages in live science shows, animal interactions, and pop-ups

• Assist in facilitating physics and soccer-themed activities

• Facilitate presentations in the Power of Poison gallery

• Create a learning environment that encourages and supports diverse audiences

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Received or pursuing a degree in STEM

• Have an interest in STEM and education.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with fellow staff members and guests in a friendly and professional manner.

• Ability to relay science concepts and themes related to the scheduled activities.

• Ability to adapt teachings to various ages of guests to meet their different levels of understanding.

• Skilled at presenting complex content in an entertaining and easy-to-understand manner – a talent often honed in theater or performance.

• Enthusiasm and the ability to work with diverse populations are required.

Classification & Schedule

This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay. LSC is open on weekends, most major holidays, and some evenings, so flexibility is a must. You will consistently be scheduled to work weekends. On average, you will work 4 days per week, with shifts ranging from 6 to 8 hours. This seasonal role starts around Memorial Day 2026 and ends around Labor Day 2026.

This is an on-site position at Liberty Science Center located in Jersey City, NJ, and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, on-site work requires the employee to stand for long periods while working with students or the public. The ability to lift 30 pounds is required. The position requires frequent visits to the museum floor (navigating concrete floors, climbing stairs, etc.) and outdoors (navigating uneven ground and being exposed to the elements), tolerating high levels of noise, and extensive public speaking, sometimes in noisy environments.
