Position Overview

The Quality Control Lab Technician III is an advanced-level laboratory professional responsible for performing complex chemical and physical testing on raw materials, fuels, intermediate materials, and finished cement products. This role ensures compliance with ASTM, API, and internal Capitol Cement standards, supports specialty cement production, maintains analytical equipment accuracy, and serves as a technical resource and mentor for Quality Control Lab Technicians I and II.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze raw materials, fuels, intermediate materials, and finished cement products to ensure compliance with ASTM, API, and internal quality standards.
  • Perform advanced chemical and physical testing including solid fuel analysis, calorimetry, particle size determination, gypsum analysis, and specialty cement testing.
  • Conduct X-ray unit drift checks, calibration, method development, and certification in accordance with ASTM C-114.
  • Perform physical testing on cement products including strength development, setting times, flow, air content, false set, and water retention.
  • Perform testing on bulk transport, competitive, field, and reference laboratory samples.
  • Interpret test data, prepare reports, maintain records, and develop monthly quality graphs and statistical analyses.
  • Act as liaison with solid fuel suppliers to support consistent fuel quality and availability.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical direction to Quality Control Lab Technicians I and II.
  • Complete assigned area audits.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Abide by and support all company and plant safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.

What You'll Bring

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced ability to perform and interpret cement, fuel, and raw material laboratory tests.
  • Ability to communicate technical data effectively and maintain productive working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and direct junior laboratory technicians.
  • Ability to follow laboratory procedures, safety rules, and operating instructions precisely.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in cement manufacturing required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Quality Control Lab Technician II and/or Quality Control Lab Technician I required.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal safety rules, operating instructions, and warning notices.
  • Ability to safely operate laboratory equipment and plant vehicles as required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and respond calmly in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of personnel, equipment, and plant operations.
