THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD.
Compass Systems Inc. is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Financial Manager to lead and support critical accounting and financial operations. This role plays a key part in driving financial performance, ensuring compliance, and supporting organizational growth.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capabilities, thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and demonstrates the ability to oversee complex financial processes while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the organization.
- Oversee and manage month-end billing processes and ensure accurate and timely invoices across all assigned projects
- Lead accounts payable operations, including subcontractor, independent contractor, and vendor invoice processing
- Review and approve employee expense reports in compliance with company policies
- Manage and oversee weekly accounts payable check runs
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines
- Analyze financial discrepancies and variances, providing detailed insights and corrective recommendations
- Develop, standardize, and enhance financial reporting using Excel and other financial systems
- Provide leadership and support for internal and external audits, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
- Establish, document, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and best practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with program management and leadership to support financial planning and decision-making
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities as needed
- Lead or contribute to special projects and strategic financial initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Active Secret Security Clearance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in accounting within a government contracting environment
- Active Secret Security Clearance (or prior eligibility)
- Experience with QuickBooks or other ERP/accounting systems
- Familiarity with government compliance requirements (e.g., FAR, DFARS)
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy initiatives
Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- 5–8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead processes and work effectively within a team-oriented environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents. Occasional Travel may be required. 10%. Occasionally will need to lift/and or move up to 15 lbs. Moderate environment temperature and noise level. Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise levels may be loud at times.
- Ability to perform work in a standard office environment, including prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer
- Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and in person
- Ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 15 pounds (e.g., files, equipment)
- May require occasional travel, as needed, to support business operations or client requirements
