About This Position

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Senior Event Coordinator position within our Early Learning & Child Care Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the Director of Programming and Research, the Senior Event Coordinator is responsible for implementing the safe and efficient execution of special events. The incumbent will oversee special event logistics and communicate design details per the approved floor plans and visual guidelines, as well as departmental and Government requirements.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Monitor, maintain, and communicate event requirements and updates;
  • Book venues, entertainers, photographers, and schedule speakers;
  • Comply with legal, insurance, health, and safety regulations at all times;
  • Plan and facilitate logistics for all events, including contract negotiations, guest lists, venue preparation, presentation materials, security, catering, entertainment, transportation, equipment, decor, and marketing materials;
  • Liaise with vendors, exhibitors, and stakeholders to ensure everything is in order during the event planning process;
  • Coordinate all operations with a keen attention to detail, and ensure the project tasks stay on schedule;
  • Remain current (or ahead of the curve) with event project planning, design, and production trends, and proactively identify and solve operational challenges.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Event Management, Project Management, Hospitality Management, or Public Relations;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with proven success in event planning or coordination;
  • Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets, invoices, and financial tracking;
  • Experience in preparing reports and observation documents;
  • Experience with event or project management software;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
