The role combines people leadership, technical depth, and cross-functional partnership across HR, Finance, Tax, and Legal. You will play a critical part in modernizing payroll systems through automation and vendor optimization. Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead global payroll operations and strategy, ensuring seamless execution across multiple jurisdictions while building scalable, compliant systems that support organizational growth.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global payroll team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across the US, Canada, and Australia, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Drive global payroll strategy for M&A, acquisitions, and international expansion initiatives, ensuring smooth integration and scalability
  • Manage and optimize relationships with external payroll vendors, including selection and performance oversight
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll activities, including tax filings and statutory reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, tax, labor, SOX, and data privacy requirements across jurisdictions
  • Oversee complex payroll transactions, including equity compensation elements such as RSUs, ISOs, and NSOs
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Legal, Tax, and Internal Audit to align payroll with broader business objectives
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and standardization
  • Support HRIS integrations, system enhancements, and data integrity initiatives
  • Conduct payroll audits and implement continuous improvement initiatives across processes and controls
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep global payroll expertise, strong leadership experience, and the ability to operate in complex, fast-paced, and multi-country environments.

  • 8+ years of progressive global payroll experience, ideally in mid- to large-scale or public organizations
  • 3–5+ years of leadership experience managing payroll teams or strategic payroll functions
  • Strong knowledge of international payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance frameworks, including equity compensation considerations
  • Experience with payroll and HR systems such as Workday, ADP, or Fidelity, with strong Workday Payroll proficiency preferred
  • Background in SOX-compliant or IPO-ready environments strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills with the ability to translate payroll data into actionable insights
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Finance, HR, Legal, Tax, and Audit stakeholders
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing competing priorities in a global environment
  • Strong communication and change management skills, with experience driving adoption of new processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification preferred
