Behavior Specialist- Children’s RTF Department Overview

The Behavior Specialist position is designed to prepare an employee to meet the qualifications to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The Behavior Specialist is responsible to support a Behavior Analyst with the development and implementation of functional assessments, function-based interventions, staff training, parent training, and implementation of interventions within the Residential Treatment Facility (RTF). The Behavior Specialist takes a lead role in for a small caseload of clients under the supervision of the Behavior Analyst. In addition, the Behavior Specialist assists with specific case management responsibilities, including but not limited to, preparation for utilization review meetings, bi-weekly review meetings, and family training. Position requires evening and weekend hours, as needed, to provide continuity of treatment and training of families/caregivers.

Schedule and Salary Information

  • Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 11a-7:30p (flexibility required)
  • Starting Salary:
  • With bachelor’s degree: $54,080.00 (+) based on years of experience
  • With master’s degree, no bcba: $60,320.00 (+) based on years of experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Applied Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology or a closely related field.
  • Active enrollment in a Master’s program leading to the BCBA credential must be completed within three years of employment.
  • Experience and training in functional behavior assessment, adaptive behavior assessments, preference assessments, and implementing behavior support plans for serious and persistent challenging behavior preferred.
  • Experience in a neurobehavioral stabilization unit or intensive residential setting strongly preferred.
  • A valid US Driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. (education, specific skills, etc.)

Behavior Specialist Responsibilities

  • Implements the Melmark Model of Program Development and Clinical Treatment across all RTF services.
  • Responsible to support the Behavior Analyst in the conceptualization of clinical programming and implementation within the RTF and classroom settings for respective caseload.
  • Supports the Behavior Analyst in ensuring consistent implementation of the behavior support plans and reliable data collection across settings.
  • Assists in the supervision, training, and treatment integrity of RTF personnel, and ensures that adequate staffing patterns are maintained.
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team for each resident, which may include, attending and preparing for biweekly reviews, medication reviews, utilization review meetings, IEP/ISP meetings and family trainings.
  • Assists the Behavior Analyst to ensure all relevant documentation is in compliance with regulatory/licensing agencies. This includes Monthly Progress Reports, Psychiatric Evaluations, and Restrictive Procedure Plans.
  • Supports the Behavior Analyst to ensure updates and changes to the protocol summaries and data sheets are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP).
