Job Description

Description:

We're looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist capable of machining compressor valves, components and machining / manufacturing precision parts such as pistons, pins, and rods. The machinist must be comfortable setting up and operating CNC lathes independently while maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality finishes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Repair and machine compressor valve components, including CPP valve seating surfaces used in compressors manufactured by Ariel Corporation.
  • Maintain tight dimensional tolerances and high surface finish standards.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes equipped with Fanuc CNC controls.
Requirements:

CNC Programming Knowledge

  • Ability to read and edit G-code programs.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Understand tool paths and anticipate the next movement of the machine before executing a program.
  • Ability to run programs provided by the programmer and safely verify the machining process.

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Touch off cutting tools and correctly set tool offsets.
  • Understand and correctly use work offsets.
  • Experience setting up parts and ensuring proper alignment before machining.
  • Ability to cut and bore soft jaws to properly hold parts.
  • Experience using a hydraulic tailstock to support longer parts and maintain stability during machining.

Precision Machining Requirements

  • Ability to hold ±0.005" tolerances or tighter when required by print.
  • Maintain runout within ±0.001" when indicating parts.
  • Machine precision features such as:

o Piston outside diameters

o Ring grooves

o Valve seating areas

o Threaded studs

Inspection & Measurement

  • Experience using precision measuring tools including:

o Micrometers

o Dial indicators

o Bore gauges

o Height gauges with ball gauges for accurately measuring seating areas

  • Ability to verify part dimensions during machining to ensure prints are met.

Machining Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of speeds and feeds for various materials.
  • Ability to adjust cutting parameters to achieve:

o Proper surface finish

o Dimensional accuracy

o Efficient tool life

  • Experience machining alloy steels and other materials commonly used in compressor components.
