Job Description

Supervisor Clinical Pharmacy Svcs - Pharmacy

Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Supervisor – Clinical Pharmacy Services supervises all Pharmacy clinical services and day to day activities; including but not limited to, therapeutic drug monitoring, drug information, medication reconciliation, patient counseling, decentralized pharmacists, and pharmacist managed outpatient clinics. This position coordinates continuing education, competency, and credentialing of inpatient pharmacists. The Supervisor – Clinical Pharmacy Services serves as Residency Program Director (RPD) and primary preceptor for residents, APPE, and IPPE students. This position serves as coordinating member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and Institutional Review Board (IRB), and serves on hospital committees as deemed necessary by the Director of Pharmacy Care Transitions. The Supervisor – Clinical Pharmacy Services assists with department scheduling, assists with performance evaluations of the Clinical Pharmacists and residents, works with the Pharmacy Buyer to control inventory, and completes projects as deemed appropriate by the Director of Pharmacy Care Transitions.

Education: Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy program with a minimum of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Must also have completed an ASHP PGY1 Residency Training. Prefer ASHP PGY2 Residency training.

Licensure/Certification: A valid unrestricted license from the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is required. Must meet all continuing education requirements for re-licensure with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Board certified through Board of Pharmacy Specialities (BPS) in a specialty area of oversight; if not certified upon hire, must be certified within 18 months from the date of hire.

Experience: PGY-2 residency with two (2) years experience in health system pharmacy practice prefered, or PGY-1 residency with three (3) years experience in health system pharmacy practice with an emphasis on clinical pharmacy services, or five (5) years experience in health system pharmacy practice with an emphasis on clinical pharmacy services is required. Required experience precepting students and residents but prefer previous Residency Program Director (RPD) experience. Prefer active role / experience in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P&T), Instututional Review Board (IRB); and Medical Staff Divisions and/or subcommittees. Prefer experience directly managing at least 2 FTEs.

Skills: Ability to work in a complex team environment and to collaborate with both external and
internal professionals and other customers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, pharmacy software, and databases. Ability to demonstrate skills in prioritization, problem solving, team building, collaboration, conflict resolution, decision making, time management, and strategic planning. Knowledge of healthcare information systems and pharmacy automation and technology. Knowledge of pharmacy services within an acute care health system. Demonstrated creativity and flexibility. Ability to operate in high-pressure situations. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to provide effective feedback. Ability to write detailed policies and procedures. Effective organizational, planning and project management abilities. Ability to function independently and deal with multiple, simultaneous projects. Ability to recognize personal strengths and weaknesses and develop goals for professional growth and achievement. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to quality and excellence.
