Position Title: Hair and Makeup Artist
Reports To: Executive Director of Hotel Operations
Department: Spa
Shift: Varies
Role: As a Hair & Make-up Artist, your work will involve creating images and characters through the medium of make-up, hairstyles, and prosthetics according to a brief. You will interpret the hair and make-up requirements of clients to produce both a creative and technically accurate visual representation. Adheres to all Company, Safety and Department policies and procedures. Fosters teamwork and provides excellent guest service, anticipates guest needs to exceed guest expectations. Builds brand loyalty by living the JW Marriott Core Values.
Qualifications:
- Education: Board-approved cosmetology school
- Experience:
- 2 to 3 years of experience in a salon or resort-style spa, along with a commitment to providing a relaxing, high-level client experience.
- Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of makeup artistry, skin types, and effective skincare practices
- Exceptional hands-on makeup application skills with a strong artistic eye
- Ability to quickly adapt to diverse work environments and changing client needs
- Strong verbal communication skills, ensuring clear collaboration with clients and teams
- Meticulous attention to detail to deliver flawless, high-quality results
- Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds
- Thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while maintaining consistency and professionalism
- Solid understanding of industry-standard beauty techniques and current trends
Required Work Cards needed:
- Valid Nevada State Board of Cosmetology License
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Collaborate with clients to clearly understand creative vision, visual requirements, and expectations
- Review scripts and briefs to determine required looks, materials, and techniques, while considering budget constraints and research needs
- Develop, sketch, and present creative design concepts for hairstyles and makeup looks
- Ensure hair and makeup continuity throughout production by coordinating closely with designers, photographers, and production teams
- Apply a practical understanding of lighting, photography, color theory, and special effects makeup to achieve camera-ready results
- Implement best practices to minimize skin irritation or adverse reactions from specialist makeup and hairstyling techniques
- Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- Create facial and body molds and sculpt latex foam prosthetics as required for character or special effects work
- Fit, style, and maintain wigs, hairpieces, and prosthetics to ensure comfort, durability, and realism
- Stay current with emerging hair, makeup, and beauty products, tools, and trends
- Source, budget, and order materials and equipment from specialist suppliers
- Manage time effectively by accurately estimating application time and maintaining punctual workflow schedules
- Perform efficiently and precisely in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
- Document work through detailed notes and professional photography to maintain a current and compelling portfolio

When on the casino floor, the noise level increases too loud. Additionally, smoking is permitted in casino areas consistent with Nevada state regulations, which are followed by the employer.
