You will work within a collaborative, fully remote environment made up entirely of volunteers passionate about democracy and civic participation. The role is ideal for writers looking to expand their portfolio while contributing to a purpose-driven initiative. You will help translate complex civic topics into engaging narratives that encourage awareness and participation in the electoral process.

Accountabilities:
  • Write and edit newsletter content for both internal volunteer communications and external voter-facing audiences.
  • Develop engaging blog articles covering civic topics such as voting laws, election access, and voter education initiatives.
  • Research and contribute story ideas, including volunteer profiles, event coverage, and election-related developments.
  • Conduct light interviews and gather information to support accurate and compelling storytelling.
  • Collaborate with editors and volunteers during regular team meetings and content planning sessions.
  • Help ensure all content aligns with organizational mission, tone, and informational objectives.
  • Support content strategy by identifying timely and relevant civic engagement topics.
  • Produce clear, accessible writing designed to inform and empower voters.
Requirements:
  • Strong writing and editing skills, ideally with journalism experience or published clips.
  • Background in journalism, communications, political reporting, civic engagement, or nonprofit storytelling is preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems.
  • Ability to write clearly and adapt tone for different audiences, including volunteers and the general public.
  • Strong research skills and curiosity about civic, political, or election-related topics.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, volunteer-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with editors and cross-functional volunteers.
  • Journalism students, recent graduates, or freelance writers seeking portfolio-building opportunities are encouraged to apply.
  • Bonus: experience covering politics, elections, public policy, or nonprofit initiatives.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote volunteer opportunity with flexible time commitment (approximately 2–3+ hours per week).
  • Portfolio-building experience with published bylines and editorial feedback.
  • Opportunity to cover real-world civic and election-related topics.
  • Collaborative environment with experienced volunteer journalists and editors.
  • Exposure to nonprofit media operations and civic engagement initiatives.
  • Skill development in journalism, research, interviewing, and newsletter writing.
  • Meaningful contribution to voter education and democratic participation.
