Principal System Administrator(SAP BASIS)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal System Administrator (SAP BASIS) in India.

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of complex SAP landscapes supporting global enterprise operations. You will act as a key expert across SAP Basis administration, driving system availability, optimization, and lifecycle management for mission-critical applications. The role involves deep collaboration with infrastructure, security, and business teams to design and maintain scalable and resilient SAP environments. You will also play a strategic part in shaping system architecture roadmaps and identifying automation and modernization opportunities. With strong ownership of operational excellence, you will support incident resolution, performance tuning, and system upgrades in high-availability environments. This position offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide SAP strategy while working in a fast-paced, globally distributed technical environment.

Accountabilities
  • Lead SAP Basis administration activities ensuring optimal performance, availability, and stability of enterprise SAP systems across global environments.
  • Manage SAP lifecycle operations including installations, upgrades, patching, system refreshes, and performance tuning.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, capacity, and utilization trends to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Support SAP landscape architecture including servers, storage, databases, high availability, and disaster recovery setups.
  • Drive incident management and provide break-fix support, including participation in on-call rotation and weekend coverage when required.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, and security teams to implement SAP solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including system designs, specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to automation and continuous improvement initiatives across SAP systems and processes.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in SAP Basis administration with strong exposure to enterprise IT environments.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP ECC, BW, PI, Solution Manager, and HANA systems.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, performance management, and enterprise infrastructure (servers, storage, networking, databases).
  • Expertise in SAP system lifecycle management including installations, upgrades, patching, and system refreshes.
  • Experience with SQL-based databases, Linux environments, and cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Shell scripting) and automation tools; Excel VBA is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP performance tuning, batch processing, and system monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and large-scale global SAP landscapes.
  • Good understanding of web technologies, security frameworks (SSO, firewalls, proxies), and interface architecture.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across technical and leadership levels.
  • Preferred: experience with SAP S/4HANA, CRM, SNC, SLT, Hybris, Web Dispatchers, and DevOps/LEAN methodologies.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in STEM or related field, or equivalent experience.
