Quality and Safety Intern

Position Summary
The Quality and Safety Intern supports the Quality & Patient Safety department in advancing initiatives that improve patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance,
The intern assists with quality improvement projects, data analysis, patient safety initiatives, and performance reporting while gaining exposure to healthcare quality frameworks, including High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles, patient safety culture, and regulatory requirements,
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for quality and patient safety metrics,
- Support quality improvement initiatives using methodologies such as PDSA, Lean, and A3 problem-solving,
- Participate in patient safety reviews, including incident reporting trends and safety event analysis,
- Assist in preparation of quality dashboards, scorecards, and performance reports,
- Support preparation for regulatory and accreditation requirements (e,g,, CMS, Joint Commission, Leapfrog),
- Participate in multidisciplinary quality meetings, including infection prevention, patient safety, and quality committees,
- Assist with literature reviews and benchmarking related to healthcare quality improvement,
- Help develop educational materials and presentations related to patient safety initiatives,
- Support documentation and follow-up related to root cause analysis (RCA) and action plans,
- Contribute to special projects related to readmissions, infection prevention, harm reduction, or patient experience,

Qualifications
Education
Current undergraduate or graduate student in one of the following fields:
Healthcare Administration
Public Health
Nursing
Health Informatics
Quality Improvement or related discipline
Skills
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Basic knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools
Interest in healthcare quality, patient safety, and performance improvement
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience in healthcare quality improvement
- Familiarity with patient safety concepts, HRO principles, or healthcare metrics
- Experience with data visualization or reporting tools
