Under the direction of the Vice President of Strategy and Information, the Content Specialist executes assigned work related to Maiker Housing Partners’ strategic messaging. This role supports defined internal messaging initiatives; develops written content highlighting staff and member experiences; and coordinates content deliverables for external campaigns in partnership with Maiker’s third-party public relations firm.
Working within established messaging frameworks, priorities, and guidelines, the Content Specialist curates, writes, and edits copy for internal and external audiences using a relationship-based, community-centered approach. This role supports the organization’s strategic vision by ensuring staff and member voices are accurately represented and by contributing to clear, consistent communication about Maiker’s progress and impact in the community. The Content Specialist tracks and reviews content performance and engagement metrics and provides input to inform ongoing refinement and improvement of content efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following depending upon the active projects and their respective stages.
- Messaging & Content Development
- Working closely with the VP, Strategy and Information, develop coordinated, organization-wide messaging campaigns that unify and reinforce Maiker’s mission, beliefs, strategic focus and priorities.
- Curate, write, and edit engaging copy for internal and external audiences highlighting environment and staff achievements, resident member experiences, and organizational impact.
- Conduct interviews, field engagement, and narrative research to authentically elevate community and staff voices. This includes regular onsite visits and collaboration with our various environments, staff and members.
- Serve as a focal point for collaboration with our third-party PR partner to support specific member stories or impact campaigns.
- Ensure consistent tone, style, and messaging across all communications channels.
- Internal Communications & Staff Engagement
- Lead internal messaging initiatives that strengthen culture, increase collaboration, and enhance staff recognition.
- Produce content for internal newsletters, staff spotlights, intranet updates, and other communication platforms.
- Work with environment teams across the organization to identify content opportunities and support knowledge-sharing.
- External Communications & PR Coordination
- Partner with Maiker’s third-party PR firm to support external campaigns and brand visibility efforts, streamlining and prioritizing internal requests from staff and leadership.
- Provide high-quality content - such as member stories, staff features, impact summaries, and organizational updates - for use in web, social media, and fundraising platforms by our PR partner.
- Monitor & Evaluate Content Performance
- Deliver high-quality content which meets stakeholder needs for written copy and design.
- Improve existing channels for internal communication.
- Support ongoing improvement of communication processes, content workflows, and messaging frameworks.
- Track content performance and gather feedback to inform future messaging strategies.
- Maintain an organized library of stories, interviews, photos, and multimedia assets.
- Other Support and Duties as Assigned:
- May perform other coordination projects as needed throughout the organization.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Four years in a role with similar content development scope and responsibilities required
- Experience and/or degree/certification in Communications, Journalism, or English/Composition preferred
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work with internal clients and technical teams, including leadership and consultants.
- Ability to build authentic relationships with resident members through community-centered engagement that prioritizes trust, dignity and shared understanding.
- Exceptional ability to write professional communications for a variety of audiences in English. (Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.)
- Exceptional ability to efficiently design engaging, brand-aligned content using a variety of tools and platforms (Canva, MailChimp, Outlook Newsletters).
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities from a variety of stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational, planning and time management skills
- Proven ability to synthesize information into compelling story elements and themes.
- Proficiency with technology to efficiently coordinate information including file storage systems, MS/Google Forms, presentation software (i.e., PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi) word processing, website design, etc.
- Initiative, self-management, and ability to effectively manage conflict.
- Understanding of organizational dynamics and effective strategies to overcome communications challenges
- Ability to build authentic relationships with resident members through community-centered engagement that prioritizes trust, dignity and shared understanding.
