About This Position
Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 750 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California. The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson offers a comprehensive athletics program for students with physical education instruction in grades K-8. Interscholastic athletics begin in grade 6, and offer 25 varsity sports at the upper division and 8 sports at the middle division.
Stevenson School is seeking an Assistant and Middle Division Athletics Director, with a July 1, 2026 start date. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the individual in this role will be involved in all aspects of the administration of the upper division athletic program including scheduling, budgeting, facility and equipment maintenance, securing officials for athletic events, and coordination and supervision of coaching staff across sports. In addition, under the general direction of the athletics director, the middle division athletics director is responsible for all aspects of the middle division athletics program.
Credentials should reflect proven success in coaching, teaching, and working with student-athletes.
Responsibilities Include:
Upper Division:
- Assists the Athletics Director
- in the development of an annual budget and its implementation
- in the development of the interscholastic athletic schedules
- in the coordination of officials for all contests
- in the coordination of transportation for all athletic contests
- in the supervision of the athletic coaches
- in the purchase and maintenance of all athletic equipment
- in the maintenance and oversight of facility maintenance
- in scheduling all athletic facilities with coaches and outside organizations
- in the tracking of athlete eligibility and physicals
- with summer sports camp supervision and administration as needed
- with maintaining Livestream schedule, updates, and distribution
- Eligibility and Compliance
- Submit eligibility paperwork with CCS and track season-by-season
- 40+ transfers and repeats annually, each requiring individual documentation and application/appeal process
- Maintain rosters for all co-curricular activities and coach communication
- Parent and student communication regarding eligibility and athletics department issues
- Assist with enrollment/accountability in non-interscholastic co-curricular options
- Assist in the tracking of coaching clearances
- Submit CCS scholastic team honors each season
- Submit eligibility paperwork with CCS and track season-by-season
- Supervision and Administration
- Supervision of home and away athletics events
- Oversee equipment inventory and maintenance for boys sports
- Coordinate varsity letter distribution, award pins, and sport certificates each season
- Assist with inventory, distribution, and collection of uniforms
- Coach (2 sports)
- Advisor:
- 6+ students annually
Middle Division:
- Attend league meetings
- Assist with hiring/assigning coaches
- All game scheduling
- Coordinate all facility use and transportation for practices and games
- Transport students to HS for practices and home contests as well as away contests
- Parent and student communication regarding all facets of the program: schedules, sport options, transportation, etc.
- Equipment procurement, maintenance, and distribution
- Uniform distribution/collection
- Attend/supervise games and contests
- Manage rosters and sign-ups
- Capture MS content for Social Media outlets
Additional Responsibilities:
- Represent the School, as needed, at league, section, and state meetings for administering the interscholastic athletic program
- Represent the program, as requested, at School events
- Support Admissions Office with interview candidates, as requested
- Responsible for carrying out all other duties assigned by the Athletics Director and/or a School administrator
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous experience with middle, high school and/or collegiate athletics
- Demonstrated success in athletics coaching, teaching, and working with student athletes
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with all members of the community
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work
- Demonstrated interest in being part of a collaborative team
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with middle and high school students
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and the integrity of all aspects of information disseminated within or external to the school community
- Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community
- Personality traits appropriate for the teaching of young children including patience and an inexhaustible sense of humor

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 based on experience. In addition to competitive salary Stevenson offers a substantial benefits package including retirement plan contributions, a menu of Anthem medical plans with generous premium coverage provided by the School, vision and dental group plans and support of ongoing professional development. Stevenson offers housing and fuel stipends for eligible employees. Meals are provided throughout the day when school is in session.
