Overview

Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Line Maintenance and Service to manage the safe and proper installation and maintenance of distribution power lines, ensure the clearance of Cobb EMC right of way, and to ensure effective communications between field and office personnel.

Schedule: 4 10 hour shifts per week

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

Distribution System Line Maintenance & Service
  • Ensure jobs are completed within pre-established time frames and on budget.
  • Resolve routine system maintenance problems daily.
  • Ensure conversion jobs are completed within the timeframe outlined in the work plan.
  • Annually review existing storm procedures and recommend revisions as needed.
  • Ensure that Maintenance to the system stays on track with the demand.
  • Schedule training in a timely manner for the installation and operation of new electrical equipment.
  • Follow-up on underground maintenance with appropriate landscaping and yard repair, as necessary.
  • Ensure the proper installation of transformers, breakers, takeoff assemblies, security lights, services, and regulators, including banks and energized or de-energized lines.
  • Evaluate maintenance priorities of overhead and underground distribution lines, schedule work accordingly
Electrical Facility Operation
  • Provide best equipment available within budget limits.
  • Maintain system at peak operating efficiency. Keep average annual outage time below established levels.
  • Consult with Engineering on all discrepancies between staking sheets and actual construction.
  • Inspect crews’ work daily.
Member Inquiries
  • Ensure that all member inquiries are promptly, courteously, and professionally addressed.
  • Ensure that all inquiries are handled to completion with fair and equitable treatment to all members.
  • Minimize inquiries forwarded to higher management for final decision, approval, or response.
Report and Budget
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit the following reports to Director of Operations: monthly Job Status Report, monthly Service Report, Training Schedule, weekly Contract Crew Report, and quarterly Budget Report.
  • Prepare and submit annual departmental budget and work plan.
  • Effectively monitor budget expenditures.
  • Receive bids and make minor material purchases at lowest cost and within budget limits.
  • Ensure that all data from WMS is utilized to ensure optimum efficiency of the workforce.
  • Ensure all contract work is bid based on quality and price.
  • Coordinate the drafting of RFP’s and contracts for any bid projects within the Line Maintenance and Service departments.
Supervision
  • Handle all aspects of employment for subordinate staff, including hiring, promotion, training, and termination.
  • Appropriately document actions in employment issues.
  • Coach and direct learning through direct involvement and reinforcement.
  • Analyze and manage daily workload and schedules.
  • Monitor performance and conduct performance planning and review sessions.
  • Ensure fair and consistent treatment of departmental employees.
  • Actively support the efforts and intent of Equal Employment Opportunity.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High School or equivalent.

Minimum ten years’ experience in electric utility line work, including five year’s leading electric utility line crews.

Specialized training in live-line work, distribution line construction, and applied electricity.

Knowledge of line feed system locations and interpretation of system maps.

Demonstrated expertise in the principles of basic electricity, safety rules and regulations, and corporate policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the SCADA system, distribution lines, substation locations, and load management systems and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) regulations.

Knowledge of Georgia’s National Pollutions Discharge Erosion Sediment (NPDES) Control.

SKILLS: Demonstrated expertise with underground and overhead installation, maintenance methods and procedures and corporate policies and procedures.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated decision-making skills.

Excellent decision-making and interpersonal skills.

Proven planning and organizations skills.

Possess valid Georgia driver’s license.

Possess an Integrated Transmission System (ITS)

PREFERRED:

Vocational/technical diploma in electrical/electronic technology, engineering, or a related field
