Job Description :

Title: Senior Engineer, Compute and DevOps

Location: Bengaluru

Working Type: Hybrid (3 days mandate in office)

Role Purpose

To ensure the availability and functionality of all server systems, whether hosted on premise or in the cloud, including both Linux and Windows environments. To ensure the security of equipment, confidentiality of data, and the timely provision of relevant production services. To contribute to the education and development of effective operations procedures and to the education of operations personnel, with a focus on DevOps practices.

Systems Administration:
  • Implement, document and maintain technology solutions in response to business needs and deliver systems to agreed delivery dates and business requirements. This includes the decommissioning of unused or out of date IT Services/hardware for both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Engage with Producers/Project Managers to extract and document operational requirements, whilst identifying and resolving any business needs.
  • Stay abreast of technology and recommend new strategies or technologies to improve the systems/network environment, with an emphasis on DevOps tools and methodologies.
  • Assist in reducing operating costs through consolidation and leveraging of existing Infrastructure where possible.
  • Ensure appropriate system and user security for both equipment and confidentiality of data across all server platforms.
  • Document new systems and procedures.
  • Work with development teams in creating infrastructure code bases using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and resolution for both Linux and Windows server systems.
  • Work with Cloud and Network engineering and Cyber to deliver security best practices.
  • Participate in the provision of 24 x 7 x 365 server support (on call).
  • Implement continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using Terraform, Git & Jenkins.
  • Build, release, and manage the configuration of AWS systems, on-premise physical servers, and Windows servers.
  • Respond to incidents and service requests raised via the ticketing system.


Project Delivery
  • Be responsible for the planning, implementation, and growth of the AWS cloud infrastructure, as well as on-premise Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Ensure effective systems availability and performance.
  • Provides advice on capacity planning requirements.
  • Undertake root cause analysis of problems.
  • Establish, test and monitor new software, services and systems.
  • Implement changes to systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate server build, configuration and deployment processes for both Linux and Windows, leveraging DevOps principles.
  • Develop and adopt new systems/support procedures.
  • Provide effective guidance and mentoring for operations staff, assisting in effective staff education, particularly in DevOps practices.


Person Specification:

  • Collaborate with global colleagues to deliver efficient and standardised services.
  • Communicate and document plans, procedural and technical information.
  • Maintain current and relevant technical information.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and training of peers, especially in DevOps and Windows server administration.


Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualifications or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (desired)
  • Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Technical/Server operations, including significant experience with both Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps methodologies and tools.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to converse with the business in their language and translate the customer requirements into technology terminology when required.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to think laterally while identifying problems and developing creative solutions.
  • Possesses problem-solving skills, analytical, self-motivated. Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
  • Ability to plan and manage Change in the production environment in order to minimise disruption whilst keeping both business and IT management informed.
  • Strong documentation skills; capable of writing proposals and papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to varying audiences (technical and non-technical).
  • Ability to identify tasks which should be automated and then write tools to automate them.
  • Able to work under pressure.
