Position Summary
The Machine Shop Utility Person plays a critical role in supporting daily machine shop operations by keeping materials flowing, work areas organized, and machinists focused on production—living our core values of Together We Thrive, Do What You Say, Do the Right Thing, Better Every Day, and Get’er Done. This position helps ensure machines stay running, work moves efficiently through the shop, and safety and quality standards are maintained at all times. The Utility Person directly supports production flow and throughput across the machine shop while reinforcing a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Shift & Schedule
Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Overtime: May be required based on production demand
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Support machinists by staging materials, moving parts, and assisting with daily production flow.
• Load and unload raw materials, finished goods, and scrap using approved material-handling equipment.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, including chip removal, coolant upkeep, and general housekeeping.
• Assist with tooling management, inventory control, and basic setup support to keep machines running.
• Perform simple secondary operations such as deburring, cleaning, and visual inspection of parts.
• Ensure materials, tools, and workstations are ready to support efficient, same-day production where possible.
• Follow all safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or quality concerns.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by helping identify flow disruptions, waste, or inefficiencies.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic understanding of machine shop or industrial environments.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Familiarity with CNC or manual machining operations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn additional shop skills.
Physical Requirements
• Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 75+ pounds with assistance.
• Exposure to industrial noise, moving machinery, and general shop conditions.
