Job Description:

The Radiation Control Technician Lead Hazmat provides radiological support coverage for maintenance, operational, and routine work that involves radioactive materials. Monitors work areas for radiation and contamination as required by procedures and regulations. Utilizes specialty instruments to monitor and control environmental radiation as well as radiological monitoring, protection, and mitigation of personnel. Conducts surveys for free release of materials, contamination, and radioactivity to categorize waste for shipment. Provides work coverage, writes work permits, enforces principles and control requirements, and responds to radiological emergencies as required. Validates safe conduct of radiological work in confines of facility and surveys materials and vehicles as needed. Serves as a mentor/advisor to facility personnel conducting work around radioactive material. Performs ongoing Radiation Control surveillance/assessments and provides evaluations to foremen and supervisors related to the adequacy of the Worker Radiological Training and the work organization implementation of program maintenance of proficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of operational duties and requires an understanding of the establishments storage plan.
  • Verifies materials against documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages; routing/performing alternate location assignments of materials to prescribed storage locations; storing, stacking, consolidating and/or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods and local planography.
  • Examines stored materials and reports deterioration and damage, removing material from storage and preparing it for conveyance.
  • Responsible for Hazardous Material, Radioactive Material, and Classified Material.
  • Receive, induct, pick, stow, pack, and ship all materials, to include Classified and Hazardous Material IAW DLAs Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), 49 CFR, IATA, IMDG, AFMAN 24-604, Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR) Part II, Cargo Movement, Chapter 204-7, and other regulations.
  • Requires successful completion maintenance of certifications for the following: Packing of Hazardous Materials for transportation, Technical Transportation of Hazardous Materials, and DoD Preparation of Hazardous Materials for Transportation (HM00204).
  • Supports and participates in the companys Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) and Quality Assurance Program (QAP) to ensure superior customer service to all depots and customers.
  • Follow strict procedures including but not limited to all company policies, procedures, and/or established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and DLA Distribution Process Manuals.
  • Follows all federal OSHA guidelines and base/company safety and occupational health plans.
  • Able to follow all local/base policies and/or regulations.
  • Must keep all certifications required for the position valid and current.

  • This position supports the DOD on a federal installation and the candidate must be available to work at the assigned physical location during business hours.

    • 7:00AM-3:30PM (M-F)
    • 2:30PM-11:PM (M-F)
    • 5:00AM-1:30PM Saturday

    NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties as assigned/approved by management.
  • This position will work with Hazardous Material and may be designated as the Alternate Radiation Protection Officer (ARPO) for the site and is classified as low hazard
  • Perform Lead duties daily.
  • Oversees day to day planning, implementation and problem solving of a team in the performance of the teams assignment.

Physical Demands

Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Essential :

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience in DSS and other Government Data Systems and other Government Data
  • Must be Hazmat Certified with Packing of Hazardous Materials for transportation, Technical Transportation of Hazardous Materials, and DoD Preparation of Hazardous Materials for Transportation (HM00204).
  • Must be certified with RPO Qualification Training and Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Materials Certification
  • Must have warehouse experience.
  • Must be skilled in problem resolution, material handling equipment, and hand truck operation.
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Must have the ability to multitask and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, and able to fulfill obligations.
  • Operates material handling equipment (MHE) such as pallet jacks, motorized forklifts, elevated work platforms, and tug.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, comprehend and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails, and correspondence from inside the organization as well as from external sources. Ability to effectively respond, communicate and present information to customers, internal and external, clients and other employees in the organization. Ability to interpret instructions and information and explain to others in the performance of this job in English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is generally performed in an office environment which requires sitting or standing and working on a

computer for long periods of time . Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods oftime. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling material. Must have the ability to work indoors or outdoors in bad weather. Handle equipment/supplies weighing 30-50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance. Must possess visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone. Wearing of safety equipment (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS:

This position is not eligible for remote work, as the essential functions of the role require the employee to perform duties on-site. Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. May be exposed to inclement/extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may vary from moderate to high, depending on location . Must be able to work in fast paced, multi-task environment. If applicable work 10(+) hours per day Will require having flexed hours to accommodate for mission requirements to include weekends and Holidays. Overtime may be required.

Transportation & Access: You must have reliable transportation to and from work and be able to access military installations.

Timesheets: Record your actual work hours daily and ensure your entries are accurate and timely to support smooth operations.
