About This Position

SUMMARY: To perform a wide variety of duties and operations in all areas of the Foundry and Caster operations with primary function of melting and pouring of molten metal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To oversee and charge furnaces with conforming standards of alloy masters as prescribed on work instructions and through laboratory testing and to execute any and all functions associated with the melting process. Work from drawings, travelers’ specifications and instructions to perform any of the following operations; all duties related to shakeout, shell or bench coremaking; operate semiautomatic core blower, sand mixer, operate perm mold machine jolt molding and alpha-set machines, sand mulling, sand testing, sand or shot wheelabrataors, band saw cut off or wheel cut off and hammer assembly and all duties related to patters and core boxes used including C02 or other gassing operations to cores. Perform all required operations related to all grinding room operations and a limited variety of DC Cast Functions should the workload require a temporary fill in. Must be able to work from drawings, travelers, specifications, and instructions. Perform set ups and adjustments on machine operations. Adhere to prescribed methods and standard process procedures on all operations. Select and check materials, tools or equipment as required. Work under general plans and direction of supervisor on a daily basis, consult with Supervisor on any specific problems or operating difficulty encountered during production of assigned jobs. Will assist in training of new employees as needed. Responsible for inspecting and wearing of personal protective equipment as required by Company safety policy found in Safety Manual. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: One-year certificate from college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL and/or COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to use basic shop math. Knowledge of computer operation and related software required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Operate fork lift truck (will be licensed in accordance with OSHA power industrial truck operator requirements.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. with the use of jib cranes and other moving and lifting devices.

The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and loud continuous noise. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Detect quantity discrepancies, defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to proper supervision. Will complete data transactions where necessary. Perform changing lubrication, cleaning and maintenance of equipment when necessary. Will maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times. A working knowledge of all job-related Quality Management System operating procedures and work instructions is required.
