About This Position
The Public Works Department for the Town of Garner is seeking a Property Maintenance Worker to work as part of a team performing various manual and semi-skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of athletic fields, landscaped areas and other Town facilities at Yeargan Park. The Property Maintenance Worker works under general supervision from the Property Maintenance Supervisor.
Examples of Duties:
- Assisting with parks and grounds maintenance work on landscapes, athletic fields, playground areas, parking lots, and Yeargan homestead areas.
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as mowing grass; trimming, edging, and blowing using power hand equipment; repairing fences, gates, and netting; repairing irrigation, removing leaves and debris from facilities.
- Installation of trees and ornamental shrubs/grasses
- Performs playground inspections and maintains those areas as needed.
- Operates all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks such as non-CDL dump trucks, tractors, hand tools and mowing equipment.
- Apply general use of pesticides to various plant materials on Park property.
- Provides support for athletic programming as needed.
- Provides support for special events throughout the Town of Garner.
- Prepares and responds to all storm related incidents including snow/ice removal.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Be knowledgeable in the safe use and operation of hand tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
- Be able to perform manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work in or around water; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; work at heights, in confined spaces, and below ground level; incumbents may be required to respond to emergency and public calls after hours including evenings and weekends.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights and descend on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Additional Information:
- Night and weekend work may be required due to programming schedule.
- Participation in emergency response activities and support of Town special events is expected.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The salary range shown is the hiring range. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills and qualifications.
