Hospital Mission: Our dedicated team puts the patient first, delivers quality cost-effective healthcare, and promotes wellness to all we serve.
Vision: From patient care to community wellness, Moab Regional Hospital serves as your portal to health.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Peer Support Specialist is a dynamic, grant-funded role that serves as a mentor, advocate, and crucial first point of contact for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). As a member of our multidisciplinary clinical team, you will use your personal "lived experience" to foster hope and help clients navigate the behavioral health system. This specialized role focuses heavily on providing culturally informed care to local indigenous (Navajo) and justice-involved populations in Grand and San Juan counties.
To ensure holistic care and a smooth entry into treatment, this position uniquely blends traditional peer support with critical clinical and administrative support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mentorship & Recovery Planning: Provide one-on-one mentoring, share recovery strategies, and assist clients in creating individualized Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP).
- Culturally Informed Programming: Facilitate specialized indigenous recovery programs such as Wellbriety, Talking Circles, Medicine Wheel 12 Steps, Warrior Down, Mending Broken Hearts, and Mothers/Daughters of Tradition.
- Cross-Site Support: Deliver services across three main sites: the MRRC clinic and wider hospital campus, the criminal justice system, and local community spaces.
- Resource Navigation & Advocacy: Connect clients with essential community resources (housing, employment, transportation, etc.) and provide emotional support during crises.
- Crisis Management: Recognize signs of medical or behavioral distress, escalating to licensed staff immediately.
- Observation: "Observe, record, and report" behaviors in the lobby to ensure safety and identify potential crisis situations.
- Confidentiality: Maintain strict Part 2 & HIPAA compliance with all records.
- Clinical Support: Perform SUD-specific testing such as Urinary Drug Screens (UDS) and breathalyzer tests. Assist with patient preparation for exams through performance and recording of vital signs and other duties as assigned. Assist with scheduling, daily reminder calls to reduce "no-show" rates, and documentation of demographic information in Meditech and SMART electronic health records.
- Events: Participate and assist with outreach events.
- Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
- Lived Experience: Candidates with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
- Cultural Awareness: Deep understanding of local indigenous cultures with experience in facilitation of culturally aware healthcare experiences.
- Certifications: Active State Peer Support Specialist Certification required.
- Skills: Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills. Bilingual (English/Navajo) skills are highly desired.
CLEARANCE & LOGISTICS:
- Must pass a Utah DHHS – Office of Licensing background screening.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
