About This Position
Job description
The Visitor Services Assistant supports the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The VSA shall welcome and orient visitors to the museum, answer their questions about the museum’s history and collections, and offer directions to the museum’s galleries and public spaces. The VSA will also distribute tickets and monitor timed entry for individuals and groups. Individuals must be articulate, dependable, have strong interpersonal skills and exceptional customer service experience, and work well under pressure. Position requires basic computer skills to research and provide information.
Position Requirements
• Minimum of two years of public-facing, customer service experience at a museum, cultural institution, or attraction.
• Knowledge and experience in understanding the visitor’s journey in a large museum, cultural institution, or attraction.
• Excellent communication skills. Public speaking experience and general understanding of African American history preferred but not required.
• Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work weekends.
• Computer and research skills
• Able to work in a high stress environment, working in various locations throughout the museum and campus.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather environments.
