Human Resources Manager

Sunrise Farms is a group of companies with primary focus in the poultry industry.

Role:
Reporting directly to the Director of HR, Primary Division. The HR Manager serves as the primary HR contact for the plant operations team and is responsible for overseeing all staff and personnel matters. This includes recruitment and selection, conditions of employment, staff training, attendance management programs, employee relations, grievance handling, and other administrative responsibilities.
The HR Manager also provides guidance and support to management to ensure compliance with applicable employment standards, labour laws, and company policies.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a true HR generalist by overseeing the full recruitment process, including job postings, interviews, onboarding, orientation, and employee set-up for new plant employees as required.
  • Provide day-to-day HR support and guidance to the Plant Management Team.
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions and presentations as required (e.g., HR policies, compliance, workplace practices).
  • Monitor, support, and administer the progressive discipline process in accordance with company policies and collective agreement requirements.
  • Support the monitoring and administration of the attendance management program, including preparing documentation and correspondence.
  • Implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with company objectives and operational needs.
  • Support the implementation of talent management, employee engagement, and employee relations initiatives.
  • Ensure all job descriptions remain current, accurate, and compliant with relevant legislation and company standards.
  • Analyze staffing needs and maintain appropriate HR documentation and records.
  • Assist managers and employees in the interpretation and application of HR policies and programs to ensure consistency and fairness.
  • Work closely with the Plant Management Team to ensure compliance with the collective agreement and company policies.
  • Collaborate with union representatives and management to address and resolve employee concerns and grievances.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and best practices across the plant.
  • Provide support to the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) team and HR Coordinator as required.
  • Oversee and manage one direct report, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure effective performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • CPHR designation (or working toward it) is preferred and considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of related HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Employment Standards legislation and labour relations principles.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, including exposure to grievance handling, investigations, and collective agreement interpretation.
  • Experience with Occupational Health & Safety practices and claims management is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as Ceridian Dayforce is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours when operational needs require.

Please note that the expected new hire salary range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sunrise Farms. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
