PART TIME SEASONAL SUMMER GROUNDSKEEPER at The Norman Bird Sanctuary Trust – Middletown, Rhode Island

Reporting to the Director of Conservation and Horticulture, the Seasonal Summer Groundskeeper will be responsible for maintaining the outdoor grounds of the property, ensuring they are clean, safe and visually appealing. This is a seasonal, temporary, part-time position for approximately 16 hours per week from May 4 through August 14th.

Responsibilities

• Support the Property Manager with mowing, weed-whacking, weeding, brush cutting, and stone wall clearing
• Work to achieve the goals of the Properties Team to perform the day-to-day maintenance, stewardship, and conservation of the Norman Bird Sanctuary grounds, gardens and habitats.
• Assist with tree and shrub planting and invasive plant removal as needed.
• Support the setup/breakdown of events related to the property as needed.
• Help keep the property free and clear of any litter, support light janitorial functions as needed.

Qualifications

· Landscaping, Arboriculture, Horticulture, or other related experience required

· Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member

· Proven ability to complete assigned tasks

· Familiarity with Rhode Island flora and fauna is preferred

· The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

· Experience using a weed-whacker, hedge trimmer and other small power tools

· The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull heavy objects, and climb ladders is required.

· Strong Commitment to the mission of the Norman Bird Sanctuary

· Valid driver’s license required for driving Sanctuary vehicles.
