RECREATION THERAPIST at Westchester Medical Center – Poughkeepsie, New York

The Recreation Therapist will provide therapeutic individual and group activities to the patients of Mental Health Services. The Recreation Therapist will develop and implement appropriate leisure and social activities to patients having psychosocial dysfunction. The Recreation Therapist will provide input on the interdisciplinary treatment team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Develops an individualized therapeutic activity schedule with input from the treatment team and patient, which reflects the patient's needs and functional level.
• Provides individual and group activities to patients while maintaining a safe environment and in accordance with a program schedule.
• Completes individual assessment, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with regulations and established time frames.
• Participates in departmental divisional QA&I activities and planning.
• Complies with all RT, MHS, and BH policies and procedures.
• Participates in staff and team meetings
• Serves as brand ambassador by upholding the WMCHealth Mission, Vision, and CARE values and promoting excellence in the patient experience, during every encounter.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 1 year experience working in the Mental Health field, required

EDUCATION

• Associates Degree with major in Human Services / Recreation and / or Art or Music preferred

• Knowledge of theory and techniques of activities therapy
• Ability to plan and perform therapeutic activities ulitizing a variety of media
