The annual salary the university reasonably expects to pay for this position is up to $285,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is seeking a strategic, creative, and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (AVC/CCMO). As a key member of the Chancellor’s leadership team, the AVC/CCMO will be responsible for developing and directing communications and marketing strategies for the University. As the Chancellor sets forth his strategic priorities, the AVC will be pivotal in advancing the Chancellor’s goal of elevating UCR’s brand and reputation on both national and international levels.Reporting to the Chancellor, the AVC/CCMO serves as the principal administrator responsible for advancing the brand, elevating the reputation, and enhancing widespread understanding of the mission of UCR. One of the Chancellor’s strategic priorities involves increasing the visibility and understanding of UCR’s mission and successes both nationally and internationally. The AVC/CCMO will develop and direct communication and marketing strategies, collaborate with communications staff and partners across different departments, and develop a roadmap to achieve this goal. Reporting to the AVC/CCMO is a highly collaborative team with a tremendous amount of dedication, expertise, and institutional knowledge. The AVC/CCMO will continue to foster a positive team culture as the unit works collaboratively with communication teams distributed across UCR’s schools and departments. In addition to directly providing oversight of central units, the AVC/CCMO will provide guidance to communications and marketing teams throughout the university to ensure consistency and collaboration toward shared goals for the campus.As a member of the Chancellor’s leadership team, the AVC/CCMO fosters a culture of collaboration. This role will work closely with the Chancellor, Associate Chancellor, and other key campus executives and stakeholders. Through consulting with and advising campus leaders, the AVC/CCMO will align the campus in creating a consistent voice in storytelling and messaging to advance and strengthen the University’s engagement with diverse audiences - locally, nationally and globally - that include but are not limited to faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and local leaders in the Inland Empire and Southern California regions, peer institutions, students, and prospective students.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Expert skill to create, develop and implement effective long and short term strategic communications plans. Expert skill in advising and consulting management to ensure both problem avoidance and delivery of desired institutional message to appropriate target and/or broad general audiences. Expert written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Expert knowledge and skills in financial and personnel administration and management. Expert management skills to select, train, lead, direct, guide and motivate professional and support staff to produce high quality work; skill to take corrective action as required. Expert analytical, critical thinking, project management and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills. Expert skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints. Significant experience in working with and leading results-driven communications and marketing teams. Proven experience working collaboratively with senior leadership and colleagues at all levels within an organization to identify and develop communications issues and strategies for both internal and external audiences. Experience managing a complex communications and marketing organization. Preferred Qualifications Expert knowledge of the location, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; expert knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education. Significant experience in developing and implementing successful, high-level organizational marketing, public relations programs and strategies with strong digital communications and digital marketing components. Expert skills in dealing with formal and informal news media, including knowledge of local, regional, and national news media and how they make coverage decisions. Advanced knowledge of principles of practices of marketing, advertising, and public relations, including demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating short and long-range public relations programs to support institutional goals and objectives. Experience implementing and overseeing digital marketing initiatives in web, email, advertising, and social media. Expert presentation and public speaking skills; ability to represent the University of California, Riverside in public forums. Experience supporting community engagement through communications and marketing. Knowledge of the teaching, research, and public service roles of major research university.
