About This Position
SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist within a correctional facility. The PTA assists in implementing treatment plans to help incarcerated individuals improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore function, while adhering to all security protocols and institutional policies.
Requirements:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Implement treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and functional mobility training.
• Monitor patient progress and report changes, concerns, or outcomes to the Physical Therapist.
• Document patient care accurately and timely in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
• Educate patients on exercises, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques.
• Ensure all treatments are conducted in compliance with correctional facility safety and security procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of therapy equipment and treatment areas.
• Collaborate with medical, mental health, and custody staff to support coordinated patient care.
• Adhere to all applicable state, federal, and facility policies, including confidentiality requirements.
SCHEDULE:
This is a 16-hour per week position with a set weekly schedule. Shifts may be scheduled any day of the week except Thursday. Weekday hours are 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, with weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) available during daytime hours. Some flexibility is available to adjust scheduled days as needed on an occasional basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
• CPR/BLS certification
• Previous clinical experience preferred; experience in a correctional or secure setting is a plus.
• Strong understanding of physical therapy principles and rehabilitation techniques.
• Ability to work effectively under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in a correctional environment.
• Awareness of safety, security, and infection control practices.
• Ability to adapt to a structured, security-focused environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift and assist patients (up to 50 lbs. or more with assistance).
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and physical activity.
• Manual dexterity to assist with therapeutic interventions.
