HVAC Instructor at South Carolina Construction Academy – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The instructor develops and implements instructional plans that meet state and industry standards, teaches the fundamentals of HVAC and plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair for residential and commercial systems, and ensures that all lessons incorporate proper safety practices and applicable OSHA regulations. The instructor provides hands-on technical training using industry-standard tools and equipment, integrates relevant math, science, and technology concepts, and maintains both the classroom and shop in a safe, organized condition. The instructor supervises students during lab activities, monitors appropriate equipment use, and fosters an environment that supports problem-solving, technical skill development, and professional behavior.

The instructor prepares students for industry-recognized certifications such as EPA 608, OSHA 10, NCCER, or applicable state plumbing credentials, assists students with career exploration and work-based learning opportunities when applicable, and supports partnerships with local businesses and advisory committees. The instructor evaluates student progress through assessments and performance tasks, maintains accurate records of attendance, grades, and certification status, and participates in required faculty meetings, professional development, and industry-related training.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of experience in the HVAC and/or plumbing industry and hold relevant certifications such as EPA 608, Journeyman or Master Plumber credentials, NATE certification, or NCCER credentials. Prior teaching or training experience is preferred but not required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with high school students are essential. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, while an associate degree or higher is preferred.

The instructor must meet all applicable South Carolina Public Charter School District and state requirements for career and technical education personnel, including completion of any required background checks and credentialing procedures.
