Position Summary:
This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Facilities Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development. Serves as a role model for other staff and participants.
- Collaborates with the Facilities Director and other staff to keep the Y's buildings and properties functioning, secure, and clean while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the Y's reputation. Ensures campus remains secure by monitoring facility and member activities; locking up supplies & equipment; and locking the facilities at the end of each day. Works with external agencies to keep facilities and equipment remain in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Partners with the Facilities Director to lead staff in keeping YMCA campus properly maintained and functioning while adhering to all standards. Facility areas include the Main Campus and Childcare facilities.
- Oversees staff in ensuring facilities are appropriately maintained, serviced, and repaired. Ensures routine inspections and preventative maintenance on building and equipment are completed; identifies problem sources and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions; repairs broken equipment, fixtures, and building systems.
- Assists the Facilities Director with staff and/or volunteer recruitment, communication, development, and management.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff, participants, and community partners and connects them to the Y. Assists Facilities Director in overseeing maintenance contractors.
- Coordinates with the Facilities Director in keeping YMCA campus grounds clean and orderly. Duties include but are not limited to mowing, raking, snow removal, and salting.
- Ensures all needed repairs are recorded, reported and appropriately addressed in a timely manner. Collaborates with Facilities Director to engage with external contractors as needed. Secures building and campus during weather or other shutdowns to ensure staff and member safety.
- Coordinates with Facilities Director in keeping Y campus grounds clean and orderly. Duties include but are not limited to mowing, raking, snow removal, gardening, and salting. Facility areas include but are not limited to the track, offices, classrooms, kitchen, lobby, fitness rooms, equipment, restrooms, locker rooms, tennis courts, childcare areas, and sailing camp.
- Conducts the timely completion of routine inspections and preventative maintenance on building and equipment including emergency lights, fire alarms, sprinklers, hood fans, fitness equipment, and elevators.; identifies problem sources and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions; repairs broken equipment, fixtures, and building systems.
- Oversees inventory of maintenance supplies, prepares weekly supply orders, and supports order management.
- Supports program staff with moving furniture and equipment, arranging equipment for special events, and setting up camp equipment.
- Adheres to licensing requirements by conducting monthly fire alarm tests, maintaining chemical logs, and other required licensing tasks.
- As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.

- The employee is also required to use hands and fingers to operate a standard computer keyboard or tablet; use a computer, mouse, printer, and copier; operate or move program equipment; and speak and hear using a telephone.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee will lift and/or move up to up to 60 pounds.
- The employee must have sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential cleaning and maintenance duties, including ability to: (1) erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights of up to 30 feet, (2) work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms, (3) clean and operate motorized equipment, (4) work in conditions that will create dirt and dust, and (5) work in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level.
- The employee must have the ability to transition from indoor and outdoor environments and withstand drastic changes in temperature and weather.

- Work is performed at a community campus that serves all people.
- Work is occasionally stressful and requires ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and successfully cope with the pressures which are related to the position.
- The campus facility is open early mornings, evenings, and weekends and the job may require attendance outside of regular business hours (9am – 5pm).
- The noise level can be all volumes.
Essential Experience and Skill Requirements:
- 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
- Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, lead others, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
- General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with access to personal vehicle preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other facility systems.
Essential Education Requirements:
- High School degree or GED, or the equivalent experience.
