The PIO Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating daily Pre-Inspection Operations (PIO) activities to ensure vehicles are processed, staged, and ready to meet shipment and distribution requirements. This role monitors vehicle flow through PIO, tracks processing status, and works closely with logistics, motor pool, and processing teams to maintain operational continuity and prevent delays. This position serves as on-site operational support during startup, assisting with process setup, workflow coordination, and execution of PIO activities. The role also provides backup support to motor pool operations as needed to ensure overall yard and vehicle flow stability.

This role monitors vehicle flow through PIO, tracks processing status, and works closely with logistics, motor pool, and processing teams to maintain operational continuity and prevent delays. This position serves as on-site operational support during startup, assisting with process setup, workflow coordination, and execution of PIO activities. The role also provides backup support to motor pool operations as needed to ensure overall yard and vehicle flow stability.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate vehicle movement between post-production, PIO, staging areas, and outbound lanes to support processing and shipment readiness
- Support motor pool operations by assisting with vehicle staging, movement, and yard flow as needed
- Ensure vehicles are parked, aligned, and staged according to yard layout and shipping plans to maintain inventory accuracy
- Monitor yard organization, traffic flow, and lot control to support safe and efficient operations
- Verify vehicles are properly tagged, documented, and ready for shipment prior to carrier arrival
- Monitor vehicles based on time-based maintenance requirements and communicate needs to leadership
- Support execution of port modification or campaign programs by coordinating vehicle availability and movement as directed
- Communicate processing delays, damage observations, or staging issues to leadership promptly
- Conduct spot checks to ensure compliance with PPE, traffic rules, and safe vehicle handling practices
- Support 5S initiatives and maintain cleanliness and organization of yard and staging areas
- Ensure compliance with PIO Quality Manual requirements including PPE standards, vehicle handling guidelines, yard spacing, and staging procedures
- Coordinate vehicle flow within Pre-Inspection Operations (PIO) to ensure alignment with daily processing and shipment priorities
- Communicate with PIO processing teams to relay staging needs, vehicle readiness, and priority updates as directed by leadership
- Monitor vehicle status through PIO and escalate delays, quality concerns, or processing issues impacting shipment readiness
- Support execution of port processing activities by ensuring vehicles are positioned, staged, and available according to processing requirements
- Assist with tracking vehicle readiness and providing updates on status, delays, and operational risks
- Support startup activities including process setup, staging alignment, and workflow coordination
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company and department goals
Required Education, Training, & Experience:
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in vehicle movement, yard operations, logistics, or automotive manufacturing
- Valid driver’s license required
- Experience coordinating work or supporting team operations in a production or logistics environment preferred
- Experience operating or moving commercial vehicles preferred
- Familiarity with VIN tracking systems or vehicle documentation systems preferred
- CDL preferred
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of yard safety and vehicle handling practices
- Ability to monitor vehicle processing status and identify risks impacting flow or shipment readiness
- Ability to use scanners
- Ability to coordinate multiple vehicle movements in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with teams and escalate issues effectively
- Ability to read staging layouts, shipping schedules, and vehicle documentation
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and reporting
- Knowledge of 5S and standard work practices
- Ability to work effectively in a startup manufacturing environment
