Primary Function:The Electrical Lead is responsible for overseeing all electrical aspects of community and/or commercial solar project construction. This role ensures that electrical installations are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project designs, manufacturer specifications, NEC requirements, and regulatory standards. The Electrical Lead manages field crews and subcontractors while coordinating closely with civil and mechanical teams to deliver projects on schedule and to quality expectations. Travel is required for this position.
Reporting Relationship: Construction Supervisor
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise and lead electrical installation crews and subcontractors on active solar construction sites.
- Coordinate daily activities with civil and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of project scopes.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for all electrical construction activities.
- Set daily work expectations and hold crews accountable to safety, productivity, and quality standards.
Installation Oversight
- Oversee installation of DC and AC electrical systems including conduit, wire management, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, switchgear, grounding systems, and terminations.
- Verify proper conductor sizing, torque values, labeling, grounding continuity, and equipment placement per project drawings and manufacturer requirements.
- Ensure installations meet NEC requirements, utility interconnection standards, and project specifications.
- Drive crew productivity while maintaining strict quality control.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and company standards.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks throughout rough-in, terminations, and commissioning phases.
- Maintain inspection readiness and coordinate with AHJs and third-party inspectors as required.
- Promote a safety-first culture across all electrical operations.
Planning & Reporting
- Assist in developing and executing electrical installation schedules and manpower allocation plans.
- Forecast material needs including wire, conduit, fittings, gear, and terminations to prevent delays.
- Provide daily and weekly progress reports, including manpower updates and productivity tracking.
- Identify potential risks, bottlenecks, or material gaps early and communicate solutions proactively.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot electrical installation issues in the field and implement corrective actions.
- Support crews with technical guidance to maintain code compliance and installation quality.
- Resolve electrical-related field questions using structured decision-making and proper escalation when necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Journeyman Electrician license is required.
- CDL is a bonus but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in solar construction with a strong focus on electrical installation.
- Prior experience leading field crews or subcontractors preferred.
- Strong understanding of DC systems, AC collection systems, inverters, grounding, and utility interconnection practices.
- Working knowledge of NEC requirements and construction safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, and installation manuals.
- Experience with testing and commissioning procedures preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Work environment and physical demands are expected, as below:
- Frequent travel to remote solar project sites.
- Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical jobsite activities as needed.
- Long and variable work hours based on project schedules and milestones.
