Position Description: Reporting to: Principal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: 10-Month position; Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Job Overview: The Charter School of Educational Excellence seeks a certified, dedicated, and enthusiastic Educational Assistant to support our K-8 classrooms. This role is ideal for an individual currently enrolled in college pursuing a teaching degree who is collaborative, student-centered, and passionate about childhood education. The educational assistant will work closely with lead teachers to support academic instruction, foster a safe and nurturing learning environment, and contribute to the overall success of our students.
Compensation & Benefits:
Annual salary: $35,568. Health insurance, participating school in the New York State Teacher Retirement System (NYSTRS), paid leave, and professional development
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
Assist the teacher in delivering whole group lessons by managing materials, supporting student engagement, and co-teaching when needed.
Lead small groups to provide differentiated instruction, reinforce concepts, and monitor student progress.
Offer individualized support for students who need additional academic or behavioral guidance.
Support the assessment process by administering and collecting formative data and offering student feedback.
Student Supervision & Safety
Monitor student behavior and transitions in classrooms, hallways, recess, and outdoor spaces.
Support safety protocols during drills and daily routines.
Address minor health or emotional concerns and help students regulate behaviors.
Classroom Organization
Prepare and organize materials and activities for instructional lessons
Help set up and clean learning areas to maintain an engaging classroom environment.
Documentation & Reporting
Record student behavior, performance, and progress using platforms such as PowerSchool.
Maintain logs, small group notes, and data for use in progress reports and report cards.
Coverage & Supervision
Lead the class in the teacher's absence or during meetings.
Supervise students during arrival, special classes, dismissal, transitions, and lunch/recess periods.
Behavior Management
Implement classroom and school-wide management strategies, including ClassDojo and PBIS rewards
Encourage positive behavior and mediate student conflicts using school-wide systems.
Family & Community Engagement
Support or participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Help prepare communication materials such as newsletters or progress updates.
Communicate with families regarding student behavior and achievement when appropriate.
Inclusive Support
Assist in supporting students with IEPs and implementing necessary accommodations.
Provide extra support during extracurricular activities, events, and field trips.
Professional Growth
Attend and engage in school-wide professional development.
Apply learned strategies and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Technology Support
Help students use educational technology tools.
Assist with setting up and troubleshooting tech for lessons and assessments.
Other tasks as assigned by the Principal or her designee
Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in college in the education field, pursuing a teaching degree is required;
A college degree in the education field is preferred
Teaching Assistant Certification (Level I, II, or III) required
Experience working with young children in an educational setting.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
A commitment to CSEE's mission, vision, and core values.
Work Environment: This position requires standing and walking for extended periods. This position often requires supervising students beyond the classroom (in hallways, during lunch, recess, dismissal, and school events) as part of their routine duties. They are expected to maintain a safe and orderly environment in all school settings and follow all school safety protocols and procedures.
