The Field Application Engineer (FAE) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of LPR computer hardware and related systems in field environments. They ensure optimal performance of cameras, sensors, edge devices, and network connectivity that support LPR applications. The FAE works across internal sales, product, and services teams as well as externally with contractors and clients to execute reliable, high-quality deployments and to provide robust ongoing support. They communicate feedback and opportunities for technical improvements to internal teams. The FAE plays a critical customer-facing role, combining strong technical execution with commercial awareness to support sales objectives, customer adoption, and long-term account growth

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and commission LPR computer systems, including cameras, sensors, infrastructure devices, and networking equipment
  • Perform on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs for hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Calibrate cameras and LPR systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and optimal performance
  • Support, repair, and conduct preventive maintenance and system health checks
  • Support system upgrades, firmware updates, and configuration changes
  • Document installations, service activities, and technical findings clearly and accurately
  • Collaborate with other teams in the service’s organization and product teams to resolve complex technical issues
  • Provide technical support to partners, vendors, or field personnel as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, site requirements, and company procedures
  • Travel to client sites as required, often on short notice
  • Serve as the first point of contact for field-related service issues, providing on-site and remote support to clients.
  • Deliver clear status updates to project managers, clients, and leadership regarding site conditions and progress.
  • Manage and dispatch local contractors as needed to repair and maintain sites
  • Create and action support tickets meeting PAVE standards and SLAs
  • Partner closely with Sales and Account Management to support pre-sales and post-sales activities, including technical discovery, site assessments, and solution validation.
  • Act as a technical advisor to clients, translating business requirements into deployable LPR solutions.
  • Support sales cycles by participating in customer meetings, on-site demos, pilots, and proof-of-concept deployments.
  • Identify upsell, expansion, and service opportunities during field engagements and communicate them to sales teams.
  • Represent the company professionally on-site, reinforcing value propositions, solution benefits, and ROI to customers.
  • Balance technical decision-making with commercial impact, timelines, and customer expectations.

Project Coordination & Reporting

  • Document service activities, equipment installations, site conditions, and maintenance logs accurately.
  • Provide field-driven insights that support commercial strategy, pricing discussions, scope definition, and contract renewals.
  • Communicate technical constraints, risks, and opportunities clearly to sales teams to enable accurate proposals and customer commitments.
  • Provide feedback from the field to improve system reliability, installation processes, and client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams (client, contractors) to support seamless project execution.
  • Coordinate with procurement inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, and report needs proactively.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in electronics, IT, networking, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Hands-on experience with camera systems, networking (IP, PoE, switches), and field hardware installations.
  • Understanding of computer vision concepts and image capture principles.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux- or Windows-based systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently; strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, very often with short notice.
  • Proven commercial and customer-facing experience supporting sales, deployments, or revenue-generating programs is required.
  • Experience working directly with customers, sales teams, or channel partners in a technical sales, solutions engineering, FAE, or similar hybrid role.
  • Ability to understand customer business objectives and align technical solutions to commercial outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including decision-makers.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to ~50 lbs)
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, or elevated locations
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
