EFFECTIVE DATE: March 2026

SUMMARY: The Lawn Care Specialist is responsible for delivering integrated turf and plant health services across residential and commercial properties. This role focuses on promoting overall landscape health through fertilization, weed and pest control, disease management, and proactive monitoring using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.Working under the direction of the Crew Lead, Grounds Management, the Specialist conducts site assessments, identifies turf and plant health issues, and implements targeted treatment plans through calibrated applications and cultural practices. This role combines technical expertise, environmental awareness, and regulatory compliance with a strong emphasis on service quality and documentation.All product handling and application activities must comply with the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and regulatory requirements administered by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Lawn & Plant Health Services
  • Assess lawn and landscape conditions, identifying weeds, insects, diseases, and overall turf health concerns.

  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and soil amendments using calibrated equipment.

  • Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies including monitoring, threshold evaluation, and targeted treatments.

  • Develop and execute seasonal treatment plans aligned with agronomic best practices.

  • Monitor turf response and adjust applications based on environmental conditions and site performance.

  • Promote soil health, turf density, and plant vitality through proper cultural and chemical practices.

2. Application & Treatment Execution
  • Mix, measure, and prepare products in accordance with label directions and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

  • Calibrate and operate application equipment to ensure accurate rates and coverage.

  • Monitor weather conditions (wind, temperature, precipitation) to minimize drift and environmental impact.

  • Post required signage and ensure proper client notification procedures are followed.

  • Maintain detailed service records including product use, rates, site conditions, and observations.

  • Report spills, misapplications, or safety concerns immediately and follow established protocols.

3. Product Handling & Regulatory Compliance
  • Store, transport, and handle products in accordance with provincial regulations and company standards.

  • Maintain inventory awareness and report usage, shortages, or discrepancies.

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE specific to plant health applications.

  • Participate in internal audits and regulatory inspections as required.

  • Maintain pesticide applicator certification and complete ongoing continuing education.

4. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Operate backpack sprayers and related plant health equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Perform daily inspections and cleaning to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate repair needs.

  • Support operation of general landscape maintenance equipment as required.

5. Grounds Maintenance Support
  • Provide supplemental support to grounds maintenance crews during non-application periods.

  • Assist with mowing, trimming, edging, seasonal clean-ups, and site detailing as needed.

  • Support material handling, equipment loading/unloading, and basic landscape tasks.

6. Safety & Professional Conduct
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and OH&S regulations.

  • Participate in daily hazard assessments and toolbox meetings.

  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding treatments, expectations, and site conditions.

  • Represent the company’s values through quality workmanship and professional conduct.

7. General
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

*Seasonal Transition: Winter Services

From November through April, Park Landscaping transitions its primary operations to comprehensive snow and ice management. During this period, all roles adapt to support our winter service commitments. Due to the unpredictable nature of Alberta weather, this position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays during significant snow events to ensure the safety of our clients’ properties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years lawn care, turf management, or landscape maintenance preferred.

    • Previous pesticide application experience strongly preferred..

  • Education & Certification: Post-secondary education in horticulture, turf management, environmental sciences, or related field is an asset.
    • Valid Alberta Pesticide Applicator Certification (Landscape or appropriate category) is considered an asset.
    • Current First Aid certification is an asset.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract required.

    • Knowledge of provincial pesticide regulations and environmental protection standards.

    • Understanding of product labels, SDS documentation, and safe handling practices.

  • Systems & Technical Experience: Working knowledge of turfgrass species, common weeds, insects, and diseases in Alberta.

    • Ability to assess plant health conditions and recommend appropriate treatments.

    • Experience with digital systems for service documentation and time tracking (e.g., Aspire, SiteDocs) is an asset.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain).

  • Exposure to regulated chemical applications in controlled settings.

  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and carrying equipment.

  • Exposure to noise, dust, and vibration.

  • Fast-paced, route-based service environment.
