The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a ?Service Delivery Area? comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.The Staff Pharmacist functions as part of the patient-centered comprehensive health care team to promote and achieve efficient, patient-centered, high quality patient care to the American Indian and Alaska Natives residing in or near the service area. Supports and follows through with the vision, mission, and goals of Ponca Health Services. Clinic hours may vary.Essential Responsibilities and Duties:Selects, procures, prepares, and dispenses only those medications that conform to standards of quality for potency, purity, and effectiveness at the time they are administered or used by the patient.Computes dosage based on weight, age, labs, and other factors.The incumbent is legally responsible for proper interpretation of prescriptions and the dispensing of medications and drugs as prescribed.Reviews medical records for safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of drug therapy by alerting the medical staff to any prescription or dosage that can be harmful or dangerous to patients.Prescribes medications under formal collaborative agreement(s) between the pharmacist and collaborative prescriber.Collaborates with medical staff and prescriber to provide remote monitoring clinical services to patients.Specifies and labels directions, and precautions to assure proper protection of the contents and to the patient.Properly stores and protects drugs and chemicals to prevent reactions from external influences such as light, temperature, humidity, or interaction with the container.Deliver pharmaceutical care to patients implements and coordinates the provision of patient pharmaceutical care services and programs; Provides distributive services and pharmaceutical support to health care professionals within the Medical Group.Consults and provides a wide range of drug information to the community and clinical staff including formal and informal education and in services to medical staff, pharmacy, nursing staff and patients and their families; training for pharmacy students; collaborate with other health professionals to develop treatment protocol, standards of practice and policies, participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activitiesCounsel?s patients on safe and effective use including compliance with prescribed medications.To ensure formulary control, works closely with other hospitals, vendors, and patients to educate for education on the Ponca Health Services Formulary.Counsel?s patients on safe and effective use including compliance with prescribed medications.Maintains patient confidentiality.Other duties as assigned.Relationships and Authority:This position has no supervisory duties.Working Environment and Physical Demands:This position is in professional office environment.Work requires extended periods of standing, bending, reaching, and lifting of boxes of medications weighing 50 pounds or less. Work is subject to emotionally upset patients, family members, personnel, and visitors.Qualifications:Minimum:PharmD degree from an accredited institution.One or more years of experience as a professional pharmacist in Nebraska or a reciprocal state.Ability and willingness to learn Aprima and ScriptPro software applications.Applicants must have an active and current licensure as a professional pharmacist in the State of Nebraska.Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access programs.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Valid driver?s license and be insurable.Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.Able and willing to travel to satellite locations including, but not limited to Omaha, NE, Norfolk, NE and Lincoln, NE.Preferred:Two years? experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.One year of experience as a Professional Pharmacist in Nebraska or a reciprocal state.One year of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638? Indian Self-Determination Act.Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe.
