Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a motivated student to join our engineering team to assist in the management of complex system models and the planning of Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) activities. Our students are an integral part of the development team and support project reviews, deliveries, and hardware integration. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) within the aerospace and defense industry.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports full-time systems engineers in the creation and maintenance of Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) plans and procedures
  • Assists in the development and management of system model and AI&T Flows using Cameo Systems Modeler
  • Assists with requirement traceability and verification mapping within the system model
  • Helps document system interfaces and physical/functional architectures
  • Assists in the preparation of technical data packages for design reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR)
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Must be a student currently enrolled at Utah State University pursuing a degree in systems, aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Must have at least three (3) semesters remaining in school
  • Must be available to work 15–20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours per week during summer
  • Must be available to work non-standard hours (nights or weekends) when required for hardware testing
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to document technical concepts clearly
  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to follow defined engineering procedures
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior exposure to SysML (Systems Modeling Language) or MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler
  • Experience or strong interest in Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) through university projects (e.g., Mini-Baja, FSAE, CubeSat, or Robotics clubs)
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering "V-model" and the product development lifecycle
  • Experience with version control systems and technical documentation management
