This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of actuarial expertise, financial strategy, and healthcare operations, with responsibility for shaping actuarial direction across multiple lines of business. The AVP will oversee core actuarial functions including pricing, forecasting, reserving, and financial performance analysis, ensuring accuracy and strategic alignment with enterprise goals. This role plays a key part in improving profitability and strengthening financial discipline through advanced modeling and data-driven insights. Operating in a highly regulated healthcare environment, the position requires close collaboration with finance, regulatory bodies, and executive leadership. The AVP will also serve as a key representative of actuarial services in external and internal stakeholder engagements. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity with broad influence over financial outcomes and strategic decision-making.
- Lead and oversee all actuarial functions, including pricing, forecasting, reserving, month-end close support, and performance analysis.
- Drive actuarial strategy in alignment with broader organizational financial and business objectives.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain actuarial models, tools, and reporting frameworks to meet evolving business needs.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of actuarial inputs used in financial reporting and executive decision-making.
- Partner closely with finance to strengthen financial planning, reporting, and business intelligence capabilities.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial processes, including variance analysis, claims reserves, and accrual methodologies.
- Implement actuarial controls, methodologies, and best practices to ensure compliance and operational rigor.
- Represent actuarial functions in discussions with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance actuarial efficiency, scalability, and business impact.
- Manage, mentor, and develop actuarial teams, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, or related field required.
- 10+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 5+ years in leadership or management roles.
- Strong experience in healthcare actuarial functions, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and/or commercial lines.
- Deep expertise in pricing, forecasting, reserving, and financial reporting processes.
- Proven experience working with regulatory and government entities such as CMS or state/federal agencies.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Excel and actuarial modeling tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex actuarial concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to operate in a fact-based, strategic, and highly collaborative decision-making environment.
- Fellowship or Associate designation (ASA or FSA) and MAAA membership required.
- Competitive salary range: $150,000 – $300,000
