About This Position

Description:

The Process Engineer defines, maps, implements and sustains processes in the company. They react to changes by monitoring key metrics and leading the effort to bring and keep all processes in control.

They find solutions by procuring new materials, methods, and technologies, in order to improve different metrics at ABI, including yield, OEE, quality and EHS related metrics. They work with suppliers and customer on projects that benefit all companies involved.

They communicate the status of their projects and make recommendations by writing reports and presenting them to stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Defines, characterizes, and leads the implementation of new processes.
  • Participate in activities to drive improvements for critical performance metrics such as process yields, scrap loss, equipment utilization, operating costs, etc.
  • Writes and updates engineering control documents, like Work Instructions, Control Plans, process flow charts, PFMAs, etc.
  • Implement, monitor and react to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) trends and other metrics with the goal of controlling ranges to provide a consistent product that meets the expectations of our internal and external customers.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action investigations to identify the origin of a process failure and institute preventative measures to eliminate a reoccurrence.
  • Effectively use writing and verbal skills to communicate processing concepts and projects to customers, operating personnel, other company departments, technical staff and upper-level management.
  • Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations as well as manage existing or new EHS program(s) across the business as assigned.
  • Use and collaborate with operators and other employees in problem solving methodology like A3, 5S, and other improvement tools.
  • Review, disposition and provide instructions for non-conforming materials in order to reclaim or dispose of them.
  • Work with other departments to lead or support the approval of new suppliers, vendors, as well as Supplier Change Requests (SCR).
  • Expected to assist in the implementation of Alan Baird value and policy statement, accompanying its principles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:
  • Possess strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills for supporting all aspects of the engineering infrastructure.
  • Communication skills – must have good listening skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team atmosphere.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to make recommendations.
  • Must be capable and willing to learn and share knowledge and develop associates.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel from company president to production associates.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods is preferred.
  • Experience with data handling script tools is a plus (e.g., Python).
  • Experience in medical Industry is a plus.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing; a fast-paced small parts manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Working conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will encounter prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, walking, talking or listening; use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone and others office devices and reach with hands and arms.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high requiring safety equipment to be utilized.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Candidate must be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the job utilizing arms, hands, and fingers to perform complex functions of manufacturing parts and performing other duties of the job, e.g., standing, sitting, walking throughout the facility and stairs, bending, squatting, and kneeling, etc.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 lbs.

Pay: $90,000 - $115,000/per year

The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.
