About This Position
Overall goal:
Reporting directly to the executive team, the Director of Service Business Development will drive the expansion and profitability of Sphere Renewables' service portfolio. This role is a hybrid leader tasked with aggressively growing the book of business by securing long-term service agreements (LTSAs) while maintaining the operational rigor required to execute them effectively. This position requires a blend of entrepreneurial salesmanship, commercial acumen, and operational leadership to position Sphere Renewables as a market leader in sustainable energy solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
• Drive the expansion of Sphere Renewables' service business across wind, solar, and energy storage sectors, with a primary focus on acquiring new logos and increasing the company's "book of business."
• Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities, converting reactive maintenance work into high-value, long-term recurring service contracts.
• Cultivate and leverage a strong industry network to generate leads, build a robust sales pipeline, and secure strategic partnerships.
• Develop and implement commercial strategies for service offerings, including pricing models and value propositions, to maximize revenue and market penetration.
Operational & Financial Management
• Oversee full P&L responsibility for the Service Division, ensuring that growth targets do not compromise profitability; manage forecasting, budgeting, and margin improvement.
• Develop, implement, and standardize high-quality field service processes (specifically regarding welding and blade repair), ensuring capacity scales with the incoming book of business.
• Partner with executive leadership on long-term strategy, aligning new business wins with operational capacity and organizational development.
Client & Contract Management
• Build and maintain strong client partnerships through transparent communication, ensuring high retention rates on secured long-term contracts.
• Lead negotiations for complex service agreements, ensuring terms are favorable and risks are mitigated.
• Act as the executive sponsor for key accounts, ensuring service excellence translates into contract renewals and expansions.
Team Leadership & Culture
• Manage and mentor regional service leaders and field teams, promoting a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation.
• Bridge the gap between the sales pursuit team and the operations delivery team, ensuring seamless handoffs and clear communication regarding client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
• 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in a field service, operations, or industrial maintenance environment, with demonstrated success in a Business Development or Sales leadership capacity.
• Proven hunter mentality: A track record of bringing in new clients, expanding an existing book of business, and converting short-term work into long-term recurring service contracts.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA a strong plus.
• Direct P&L ownership with experience balancing top-line growth against bottom-line margin management.
• Strong working knowledge of industrial or energy-sector field operations, specifically welding or blade repair.
• Exceptional customer relationship management, negotiation, and project delivery experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and modern CRM and project management tools.
• A strong industry network or the ability to bring an existing book of business will be considered a significant asset.
Environmental, Health & Safety
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment [PPE]
• Participate in company sponsored safety training
• Follow safe work practices
• Report unsafe/hazardous conditions
