Position Overview:
The Senior Engineering Manager is a vital leadership role at Aeropay, responsible for leading a high-performing engineering team to design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions. This position requires a strong technical foundation, a passion for innovation, and a people-first approach to management. The Senior Engineering Manager will drive the execution of technical roadmaps, foster a culture of engineering excellence, and collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders in product and design to ensure technical decisions align with Aeropay’s business growth and customer needs. This role offers the opportunity to mentor talented engineers, influence our technical architecture, and make a significant impact on the company’s technical direction.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team: Manage and mentor a dedicated engineering team, overseeing hiring, career development and performance management to foster individual and collective growth
  • Drive technical execution: Oversee the implementation of scalable, reliable and maintainable software systems, ensuring the team delivers high-quality code that meets Aeropay’s standards
  • Collaborate across functions: Partner closely with Product Management and Design to translate business requirements into actionable technical roadmaps and specifications
  • Foster engineering excellence: Champion best practices in code quality, automated testing and system reliability, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the team
  • Project and delivery management: Manage project timelines, resource allocation and sprint cycles to ensure the team consistently meets product milestones and business objectives
  • Promote a collaborative culture: Build an inclusive and transparent environment at Aeropay that encourages innovation, open communication and accountability
  • Troubleshoot and guide: Act as a technical advisor and escalation point for the team, leveraging deep system understanding to help resolve complex technical challenges
  • Contribute to technical strategy: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to help shape the technical roadmap and strategy for the team’s domain

Qualifications:
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a formal people management role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred
  • Strong experience in managing and coaching software engineers, with a track record of building healthy, productive team environments
  • Solid understanding of modern software development practices, architectural patterns and at least one major programming language (e.g. Python)
  • Deep familiarity with Agile development methodologies and the ability to optimize processes for efficiency and quality
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical trade-offs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of the broader engineering leadership team

Compensation & Benefits:
  • This role is expected to be in office at Aeropay’s Chicago HQ a minimum of three days per week prior to 4/6/26 and then Monday through Thursday following 4/6/26

CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $180,000 – $200,000 per year.
