About This Position

Nurse Residency Program (RN), Medical Surgical Unit - Full Time Nights

Job Summary:

We are looking for a New Graduate RN to join our critical access hospital team in the Emergency Department. By joining our team you will have the ability to grow and expand upon the skills that you have learned during nursing school. Critical access hospitals require emergency room nurses to work at the top of their licensure and skills. As a part of the interdisciplinary team, you will provide lifesaving care for patients of all ages and disease processes. You will learn to be proficient in focused assessments , IV placement, Code Team response, and management of cardiac medications and drips for the critical care patient.

The nurse residency program is designed to support newly graduated RNs in their transition to hospital nursing practice. An intensive three week orientation with nurse educators will include topics such as: triage, interprofessional collaboration, trauma informed care, opioid and alcohol withdrawal assessment and treatment, ECG interpretation, and wound care. Over the next 19-24 weeks, the nurse resident will be paired with a preceptor to enhance bedside skills and meet with educators for additional clinical skill development. Following the initial onboarding period, the new graduate will be responsible for collaborating with nurse educators, nurse manager, and other department members to create a practice improvement project. This will help enhance the new graduate's integration into professional practice while creating connections with colleagues.

Within the first year the new graduate will attend additional courses for certification in Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, and Advance Cardiac Life Support. After one year of employment, opportunities are available to transition into other departments. Growth within the Dartmouth Health system is encouraged and supported.

Upon acceptance into NRP, applicants are guaranteed full-time employment in the Emergency Department.
