Operator II at Mid-City Scrap, LLC. – Wesport, Massachusetts

The Operator II is responsible for advanced handling, sorting, and processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This is a key role in our daily operations and requires the operation of loaders, outdoor forklifts and other heavy equipment with high attention to detail and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and sort ferrous and non-ferrous metals using visual inspection and handheld tools.
• Assist with non-ferrous department operations, including cutting, sorting and upgrading material.
• Assist with baling operations, including feeding material, clearing jams, and staging finished product.
• Assist with operating downstream and other heavy machinery.
• Operate forklifts, balers, shears, and other machinery to process materials.
• Identify and remove any non-recyclable or hazardous material.
• Maintain consistent pace and accuracy.
• Assist with general labor tasks as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.

• MA 2C & 1C License is required.
• Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of metal types and characteristics.
• High attention to detail.
• Good hand-eye coordination and stamina for repetitive tasks.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
• Forklift certification preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Requires standing for long periods of time, walking on uneven ground, bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating machinery and tools with hands.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
