You will oversee a team of project directors and managers, offering guidance, mentorship, and operational oversight across multiple clinical programs. Acting as a key liaison for sponsors, you will drive cross-functional collaboration, resource optimization, and risk management while influencing project strategy and process improvements. This role requires strong leadership, analytical thinking, and executive-level communication in a dynamic, remote-friendly environment.

Accountabilities:

The Director of Project Management - Oncology is responsible for leading clinical trial operations and project management excellence:

  • Direct, manage, and coordinate a team of Project Directors and Project Managers across global oncology programs.
  • Provide oversight and strategic guidance on project planning, execution, governance, and resource allocation to meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for study sponsors, ensuring clear communication and resolution of critical project issues.
  • Support business development through proposal development, budgeting, and bid defense activities.
  • Monitor project and portfolio KPIs, implement continuous improvements, and drive efficiency across programs.
  • Evaluate and manage interdependencies across projects, including mid-project recovery, re-scoping, postponement, or cancellation when required.
  • Mentor, develop, and evaluate team members, providing performance feedback, coaching, and annual reviews to cultivate a high-performing team culture.
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to regulatory standards, SOPs, and organizational quality policies while exemplifying core organizational values.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in clinical project leadership, oncology trials, and global program management:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or health-related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical research, including project management and line management experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of GCP/ICH guidelines and the clinical development process.
  • Proven experience leading global, cross-functional project teams and managing complex clinical trials.
  • Expertise in strategic planning, risk management, change management, and resource optimization.
  • Exceptional executive presence with the ability to deliver complex presentations to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management software.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight stays, as required.
  • Results-oriented, accountable, and flexible with the ability to foster team ownership and productivity.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range: $162,000 – $243,000 USD, dependent on experience, skills, and location.
