About the Role:
The Summer Camp Recreation Staff is crucial in creating a safe, engaging, and enjoyable student environment. This position involves planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities that promote teamwork, creativity, and physical fitness. Staff members will be responsible for ensuring students' well-being while fostering a sense of community and belonging. They will also collaborate with other staff to develop programs catering to interests and abilities. Ultimately, the goal is to provide a memorable summer experience that encourages personal growth and social interaction among participants.
What You'll Do
As part of our Summer Camp School Program in partnership with Duval County Public Schools, you'll deliver meaningful academic enrichment for students. Your role includes:
- Leading project‑based learning and engaging academic activities.
- Providing tutoring, coursework support, and targeted instructional strategies.
- Implementing curriculum and aligning lessons with district standards
Work Environment
You'll work onsite at a school, supporting students in a fast‑paced environment filled with energy and frequent movement. Some activities may take place outdoors, and both virtual and in‑person engagement may be required. Flexibility, creativity, and strong supervision skills are key to success in this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with children or in a recreational setting.
- Must pass a level two background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in leading group activities or sports.
- Knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement daily recreational activities and programs for campers.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during all activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and teamwork.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of equipment and facilities for various activities.
Skills:
The required skills for this position include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for interacting with students and their families. Leadership skills are vital as staff guide activities and ensure that all participants feel valued. Organizational skills will be used to plan and execute daily programs, ensuring all materials and equipment are prepared. Problem-solving skills will come into play when addressing any challenges during activities, allowing staff to adapt and maintain a positive atmosphere. Preferred skills, such as CPR and First Aid knowledge, will enhance safety and provide peace of mind for staff, students, and families.
