About This Position

Position Title: Improvement Manager-RN

Day Shift

Schedule: M-F 8:00am-5:00pm

Compensation: $125,000.00-$150,000.00
The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles

Position Summary:

The Manager, Improvement will be responsible for development and oversight of all improvement functions including but not limited to, Improvement Science programs and offerings, facilitating improvement projects, including design, implementation, expansion, and monitoring. They will collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership throughout the enterprise to assess needs, quality of programming and appropriate transition requirements to ensure sustainability of these programs. The position leads the improvement function accountable for spreading and advancing quality improvement and safety knowledge and insights into, across, and outside of Saint Anthony, insuring on-time, on-budget completion of the work efforts. The position will collaborate with all stakeholders affected by improvement programs and projects including leadership, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
  1. Lead the overall management of safety and quality improvement programs and projects as directed by Quality & Safety leadership.
  2. Lead and communicate effectively across multiple levels of organizational staff from front line to senior leaders.
  3. Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning and expansion to achieve the spread and advancement of quality and safety knowledge across the institution.
  4. Align all educational efforts for current and future improvement science offerings to provide ongoing support and resources for programs such as: Quality Improvement training programs, Safety Coach Program, etc.
  5. Evaluate needs and the quality of service of all programs and projects.
  6. Work with Director, Quality and Accreditation to establish departmental goals and align with strategic priorities.
  7. Lead, develop and execute detailed work plans to ensure timely completion of activities as designed. Collaborate with leadership on timelines, expectations, resource requirements and status reports to ensure successful outcomes.
  8. Share progress and accomplishments with external organizations by spearheading submissions for presentation and publication.
  9. Invest in relationships, training and tools to build improvement capacity in the organization. Promote and lead a culture of safety and high reliability and continuous learning.
  10. Demonstrate effective issue resolution and conflict management skills throughout the process to ensure the programs and projects continue to move forward. This includes the ability to identify barriers and communicate effectively to leadership with solution plans.
  11. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
  12. Other job functions as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

  • Perform both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions with others.
  • Assume responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures.
  • Participate in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assist in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
  • Represent the organization by participating in professional organizations, continuing education, outside workshops, seminars, and meetings that relate to Improvement. Participate on selected Hospital and Medical Staff committees, workgroups, and taskforces as indicated and appropriate.

Qualifications: (List any required knowledge, skills, experiences or training, including length of time necessary for proficiency, required to perform the job.)

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of clinical or improvement experience.
  • Six Sigma, healthcare quality, or patient safety certification preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating complex enterprise intra/interdepartmental programs or projects.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and problem resolution skills, including facilitation of groups and effective presentation skills.
  • Effective listening skills to understand various perspectives and ability to synthesize findings to achieve results.
  • Excellent analytical and process/systems thinking skills; excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Experienced skills in the use of excel, Visio, power point, and other Microsoft Office products.
