About This Position
Position Summary:
The Senior Engineer will be responsible for delivery and design on multiple projects, directing and leading other design professionals within their discipline, and working with other design disciplines internal and external to PEC to develop engineering solutions for PEC’s Clients in accordance with each project’s client contract and to the expectations of PEC. This position is expected to manage the discipline project scope, schedule, and cost while also assessing and managing risks and client satisfaction. This position will coordinate and communicate with all appropriate project stakeholders, ensuring deliverables and milestones are on time and within budget.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently negotiate and manage scope throughout planning and execution, making sound technical decisions and demonstrating a thorough understanding of the technical breadth and details of team deliverables with minimal guidance or oversight
- Anticipate and productively resolve discrepancies between client expectations and contracted scope.
- Manage discipline scope, cost, and schedule for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects on time and within budget.
- Develop fee and scope for proposals and, when needed, establish project budgets.
- Responsible for assembling the discipline team with the approval of each team member’s supervisor.
- Manage the flow of project work for the discipline
- Manage the application of discipline resources to the project
- Responsible for leading and directing team members to complete projects in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards and project specifications.
- Perform technical and quality control reviews for projects.
- Direct production and review of engineering plans and drawings.
- Lead the preparation of project cost estimates and feasibility studies
- Direct engineering design, coordinate with other design staff for construction documents and specification production in compliance with building codes, perform construction administration, and develop reports/studies
- Serve as an advisor to the Project Manager, identify and communicate any potential risk to the project in a timely fashion
- Direct design computations by hand and by computer software
- Use experience, education, and judgement to make informed decisions. Retain knowledge and build on previous experiences to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity
- Organize multiple projects and tasks and complete them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC and client Standards. Oversee tasks that have been delegated to other engineers and support staff
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with the design team to complete design tasks on numerous projects
- Leverage Engineering expertise to teach and mentor other Project Engineers at all levels. Be a trusted partner with leadership to provide feedback and optimize business practice compliance
- Participate in business development activities to include developing and maintaining relationships with clients
- Travel is required on an occasional, as‑needed basis and will vary by project; some assignments may require periodic monthly travel, while others may require little to no travel.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
Special Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to work independently and with others, with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in leading preparation of engineering plans, reports, and documentation
- Familiarity with applicable regulations, permitting processes, and design standards
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge and skill in determining discipline specific project requirements, setting discipline specific project scope of work, determining design budgets, determining preliminary construction budgets, and review of contracts
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to convert technical value into meaningful business outcomes for customers and internal stakeholders
- Ability to influence without authority.Experience with industry accepted software as described below:
- AutoDesk Revit
- AutoDesk AutoCAD
- Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Bluebeam Revu
- Acuity Visual Lighting Software and/or AGI preferred
- SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, and/or ETAP preferred
- Experience with interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components as described below:
- Electrical Equipment Room Layout and Sizing
- Building Electrical Distribution (Power Distribution Panels, Panelboards, Motor Control Centers, Transformers, Surge Protection, Emergency Power Systems, UPS Systems) Design
- Electrical connection requirements for a variety of equipment including HVAC, kitchen, medical, manufacturing, and other owner supplied equipment.

Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a B.S. Degree in an appropriate field of study from an ABET accredited university is required
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in electrical engineering design is required
License and Certification:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in the location of practice is required

Duties involved require moving materials that weigh up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. At times, bending, reaching, standing, and walking may be required.
